Book Reviews of Book of the Dead (Kay Scarpetta, No 15)Book Review: Dijointed Summary: 2 Stars
I had not read a Kay Scarpetta thriller for a long time and this was a big disappointment. It meandered all over the place, with characters changed completely for the original development. Everyone has problems but this is one thriller that produced boredom.
I stayed with it, but it wasn't until after 300 pages that the story started to take place. Then it rushed to an ending were nothing was resolved though the murder was caught, but everyone else went on their merry way to sin again.
Cornwell will have to do better than BOOK OF THE DEAD to resurrect what was once a great series.

Book Review: Dead Book Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this book because the blurb on the back says it won the Galaxy British Book Award...what are those Brits thinking? The plot was standard psycho killer (with a twist or two)but the writing. It bordered between competent to tedious, a style somewhere between screen-writing and news reporting. Lazy writing, with much inane dialogue apparently put in for no other reason than to make the book 500 pages long.
This is the second book granted a major award which has greatly disappointed. The other was "The Road". I will ignore all such announcements of awards in the future when buying books and I think others should do the same
Book Review: Yep, it's bad Summary: 2 Stars
I really hate to say this, but the book is just bad. All the usual characters have all gone weird. As I struggled through it, forcing myself to read bits at a time between other books, I kept getting the feeling that Cornwell was in a depression when she wrote this. Half the time, I didn't understand (and really didn't care) what was going on. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I ever finished it. That said, I adored her other Scarpetta books, which made this one doubly disappointing.
Book Review: Difficult at Best! Summary: 2 Stars
While I respect the author's ability to describe in detail, sometimes to excess, this was not an interesting read for me. I found it extremely difficult to remain focused and found myself having to "go back" in an effort to understand who and what was happening. Too many kooky characters! Grisly it is. Would not purchase this book again and do not recommend it. It sometimes felt like a lesson in forensics and computer wizardry.

Book Review: Who wrote this book? Summary: 2 Stars
This book is very different from older Cornwell novels. She normally writes a first person, past tense narrative. This is written in an unusual third person, present tense. The characters in Book of the Dead are absolutely cartoonish in behavior and dialogue, unlike the more rational characters in previous books. I find it difficult to believe this is the same author. If this were my first Scarpetta Mystery, I would not read another.
