Book Reviews of Bone: One Volume EditionBook Review: Great Fantasy Series Summary: 5 StarsYou would have read reviews comparing this to Lord of the rings. This is 100 % true. The similarity between LOTR and Bone is that both the stories are about two small creatures involved in a war between two races in a mythical world. The comparison stops with this. The rest of the story is original and belongs to Jeff Smith. The story is epic (at 1300 pages), funny and deep. But the funny creatures do not interfere with the plot. In course of time, Bone will definitely gain wide recognition as Watchmen and Dark Night returns and Sandman. (These graphic novels became cult to mainstream only after 10 to 20 years of publication).
If you are looking for an entertaining yet intelligent read, Bone is the book for you. Bone's one volume color copy is slated for a 2009 release. You do not have to wait for two more years. When you start the book you will think "what if this has been colored", but after 100 pages into the book, you will never have the same thoughts. In fact, the B&W coloring works for the tale. The artwork suits the mood of the tale - funny and dangerous at the same time.
I hate to use the most cliched phrase "fun for the whole family", but in this case, I would shamelessly say that.
Book Review: By far the greatest graphic novel. Summary: 5 StarsBone is one an egaging, fun, humurous, (and very very heavy) grahic novel. it has creative charecters like Ted, Roque Ja, the rat creatures and the bones themselves! Everyone has a very distinct personality and the charters are very convinsing. The simple look of the bones mixed with the detailed drawing of the valley people is a very appealing contrast. Aslo, the blank faces of the bones (and very large noses) gives them plent of good expressions. On the downside, Thorn seems to have limitless power and the whole dreaming thing is kind of cliche. But even with the downsides, this book is definently worth reading and will give you hours of laughs!
Book Review: Graphic Novel Storytelling at its best! Summary: 5 StarsBONE, by Jeff Smith, is a visual and literary treat. Comprised of the entire run from the BONE comics, this collection is the perfect gift to give to comic fans, both old and new. Presented in black-and-white, as the comics originally ran, BONE chronicles the story of three cartoony characters from Boneville, as they get stumble through an adventure of epic proportions. Humor, pathos, drama, action, social commentary - it's all here.
Jeff Smith channels Walt Kelly (Pogo) in places, but has a style that, overall, remains refreshingly his own. You won't be disappointed in this series. Highly recommended.
Book Review: My 9 year old son LOVED this book. Summary: 5 StarsI bought this book for my 9 year old son after he became interested in the Bone series by reading one of the thinner books. He could not stop reading this book and finished it over the weekend. I wish there were more in the series I could purchase for him because he is not an avid reader.
Book Review: BONE- an awesome collection Summary: 5 StarsI bought this as an end of the school year gift for my 10 year old son, who is aspiring to be a cartoonist/comic book creator/writer. He absolutely loved it. The artwork is creative and the story line is really funny/scary!!! To quote my son, "IT is AWESOME!!!!"
