Summary of Bombs Over Baghdad: Desert Storm for the Liberation of Kuwait

Ron Weiss details the Gulf War in-depth and chronologically, commencing with the unification of world leaders, the United Nations mandate to use force against Saddam Hussein's illegal military invasion of Kuwait, the Gulf War with the most advanced military equipment ever deployed in actual combat, and culminating in worldwide newspaper headlines: VICTORY SWEET VICTORY, KUWAIT IS FREE.

Today's students of higher education will undoubtedly find this interesting as on-going events continue to attract world-wide attention.

Operation Desert Storm was initiated by savage air strikes into Iraq to destroy communications systems, missile sites, airfields, supply lines, and oil refineries. Following the successful air assault, the coalition troops with heavy-armor vehicles advanced quickly and decisively, destroying over 2,000 Iraqi tanks and support equipment while 30,000 Iraqi troops surrendered. Realizing a disastrous defeat, on the morning of February 27, 1991, Saddam Hussein ordered his troops to withdraw from Kuwait. The ground assault lasted only three days. On Saddam's orders, the devastated and defeated Iraqi troops torched 590 oil wells and destroyed a number of oil facilities in Kuwait.

Saddam's "Mother of All Battles" was the Allies' "fight to go home." And so they did.in glory. During the conflict, our nation, along with others throughout the world, stood united for the liberty of a small nation, Kuwait, and willingness to establish freedom for their local citizens.

Ten years have passed and journalists continue to report on the encounters between Allied aircraft and Iraqi radar-guided missile sites of the "no-fly zones." It is true the Gulf War is over, but is it truly over for Saddam Hussein?
