Looking at the picture of Blessed Miguel Pro on the cover of this book, I thought he looked very somber. Nothing could be further from the truth, this holy man had a great sense of humor. His humor overshadowed his deep spirituality and his severe health problem.
When he was 20, he became a Jesuit novice and shortly after he was forced to leave Mexico because of the Revolution. He traveled to the United States, Spain, Nicaragua and Belgium. He was ordained in 1925 in Belgium but since his health had not improved he was allowed to return to Mexico
In 1926 the government ordered all churches closed. Although the churches were closed, the sacraments were celebrated secretly. Fr. Pro wore disguises to outwit the police many times and carried his altar with him.
He was captured and executed in 1927 for the crime of being a Catholic priest. He gave his life in defense of the Catholic faith. This book includes photographs from the life of Blessed Miguel Pro, including photos taken at his execution. At his execution he raised his arms in the form of a cross and blessed his executioners.
Father Pro's life was short, but is an outstanding example of one who loved God and served Him in all that he did. Read this short, well-written book, you won't be disappointed.

This is the inspiring story of the famous Father Miguel Pro who was executed in Mexico in 1927 for the crime of being a Catholic priest. This young Jesuit spent most of his short life in the priesthood dodging the Mexican police as he ministered to the underground Church during the Mexican Revolution. Fr Pro's quick wit and keen sense of humor were put to good use as he pedaled around Mexico City on his bicycle in various disguises, en route to administering the Sacraments, giving spiritual talks or begging food and money for the poor. But behind the disguises beat the heart of a Saint - as the Mexican people testified by turning out in throngs to pay their last respects after his martyrdom. Fr Pro offered his life for the Catholic Faith and his last words on this earth were: "Viva Cristo Rey" - Long live Christ the King!
