This book has magic all over it in every way. Ultima is a curandera who comes to Antonio's family to help out and protect them. She winds up fostering Antonio's spirit and turning him into a young boy who is both intelligent and sensitive. Tony sees things no boy his age should see and he becomes the eyes and ears of everyone around him. Moving and beautiful. Rudolfo Anaya is amazing!!!!
