Customer Review: A different take on Doc Ford

This is Randy Wayne White's latest in his Doc Ford series. White is by now a veteran of many books (this is about 15, if memory serves correctly) and we've learned a lot about Ford and his background. As the book starts, he's delivering blackmail money to a bad guy in the Caribbean at the behest of his god-daughter, and he's not certain that paying the guy off will work. The bad guy has video of the young lady and her friends cavorting at an island resort with some of the locals, and he's going to keep copies and try and drain her of money indefinitely. When one of the other stars of the video winds up killing herself, Ford decides he has to go to the island and sort the problem out personally.
When he gets to the island, he meets two different characters. One's a sort of James Bond-like senior citizen, an eccentric Englishman who thinks himself the descendant of the Knights Templar and sees himself as an avenger of those who have been wronged in his sight. The other character Ford meets is the villain, a local voodoo priestess who specializes in blackmail and all sorts of other nastiness, and practically runs her island like a small kingdom.
This is one of the better Doc Ford novels in recent memory, and I liked it a great deal. I would recommend it.
