June 24, 2007, BLACK & UGLY by Essence Best Selling Author, T. STYLES
"I am not my hair. I am not this skin. I am not your expectations NO! I am the soul that lives within," sang India Arie. The chorus to this song is the theme song for Princess T. STYLES' latest novel, BLACK & UGLY. Within the pages of this Urban Fiction story T. Styles writes with constant consciousness in mind as she sets up the leading role for Parade also known as~ Miss Black & Ugly. Parade is living through what it actually feels like to BE~BLACK & UGLY even in the hood. Although she is a wonderful daughter, best friend, girlfriend, and mistress, the people that she adores the most simply will not adore her until...
Riding Parade's boutique coat-tail is her designer wearing, dope girl groupie and (BFF) best friend forever, Sky. Sky constantly reminds Parade how black she is and how ugly she is in the midst of being a wannabe urban socialite. Sky dates one of the cutest and richest dope boys in the game today but like all dope boys do...he creeps!!! He not only creeps but creeps with someone close to Sky...hmmmm.
Daffany uses her mind and her body to get paid but the consequences are of course deadly and shocking. Daffany goes through many trials and tribulations as her circle of friends protect and pamper her as her world as she knows it falls apart. She desperately wants to be loved as all the characters do but you certainly can't turn a whore into a housewife.
Keeping the circle of friends together while doing his on thang, Miss Wayne will keep you laughing and loving him through out this hip-hop tale of color, self-esteem, friendship, love, hate, and epiphanies.
Essence Best Selling Authoress, T. Styles has written an awesome novel that will leave you wanting more and stepping back and looking at yourself. She also did the unthinkable while penning this urban banger, she writes it superbly in the present tense, which draws the reader in like no other urban fiction novel can. BLACK & UGLY is a much needed break from the regular and redundant novels that are on the shelves today. T. Styles is a true and experienced urban literary veteraness that does what veterans are suppose to do, she steeped up the game as we know it!!!!
