Gack! My first hint that I was going to hate this book was when I read the forward, by the author himself, bragging about himself & the success of this book. Yikes.
This book is like reading the straight code. No, actually, the code is less frustrating, because I don't expect the code to explain itself to me and give me decent examples. Rather than tell you what the rules are NOW (that you need to know for the Professional Responsibility exam), the author gives too much history about what the law used to be, blah blah, then after you rack your brain trying to memorize that, he then tells you that it's not that way anymore..... There are too few examples, and in fact, most sections are short and just spew the code in a way that is more confusing than the code. In fact, I have a copy of the code book, and it's easier to understand. If you're looking to buy this book because you want the info in plainer English, with examples - don't buy this book.
I highly suggest, unless you have no other choice because perhaps this book is a required book, that you buy the Gilbert's Law School Legends lecture on tape/CD and transcribe it, and then use the transcription as your "textbook." That's what I'm going to do. The lecture on tapes (I prefer cassettes because they're easier to quickly rewind & fast forward than CDs) is pretty decent.
This book will take up space on my shelf only long enough for me to see if I can get any use out of it at all as a reference. So far, the index seems to be fairly useless, too, which means I may end up just putting the book back up for sale here for you unfortunates who have no choice but to buy this book.
