Book Review: Standard Textbook style
Summary: 3 Stars
I hate books that are to technical and tough to read. Most of the actual discussion regarding WWII was like that. Instead of on the edge of your seat excitement regarding these aerial aces these sections were just a bunch of statistics discussion types of planes flown and what missions these guys were on. I guess I was expecting more excitement in the writing.
As for the before and after those sections were good. The discussions regarding the men, their training and the aftermath of WWII were pretty well done. It's hard for me to understand why it was that these men were treated in this fashion but, like it or not, I guess it was just the way it was. As a white man who has lived both in the north and the south I have seen a lot of racism in my 57 years. As a member of the U.S. Army back in the 1970's I saw it even then and I saw the silly attempts the Army made to make changes. When you get right down to it the military is a brotherhood and if you are lucky enough to become a member the membership is for life and everyone before and after you is now your brother - black, white, yellow, red. Doesn't matter. Again, there are no excuses for what happened to these great men but I thank God that we had them on our side and I am glad that I got a chance to read a little about their history.
