Book Reviews of Betty Crocker's Slow Cooker Cookbook

Book Review: Very good slow cooker book
Summary: 5 Stars

I initially tried three recipes totally as written, to test the
books merit. I found them very good and quite edible. After that
I modified recipes to my families likes and dislikes. Making a
recipe as written knowing that it contains ingredients you or
your family either detest or at least dislike is asking for
the ruination of the whole meal. I can't imagine trying several
recipes from the book and finding them awful unless you are doing
just that. As far as cooking with sun dried tomatoes, I believe
they are an acquired taste which I don't have yet, therefore I
restrict them to side dishes until I acquire the taste or give
up on them.
This book is very good at giving the basics to which you can
infuse your own epicurian taste ingredients.

Book Review: Impressed
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, color me impressed. I was not expecting much from this cookbook - didn't think there was any way Betty Crocker would be "with it" - but this book kept showing up in my recommendations, and I do love my crock pot, so I ordered it. The book arrived today and I'm in love! Not only is the book full of interesting, yet easy, recipes, but there are plenty that are relatively lean (<30% fat). Yes, nutrition information is included! And I love that it is spiral-bound inside the hard cover; very well put together. There are even recipes for what to do with leftovers from other recipes. My only beef with it is that most of the recipes don't include high-temp cooking times, so if you don't have eight hours to let something cook, you're outta luck.

Book Review: Delicious recipes and easy to follow
Summary: 5 Stars

Thanks to this book, I come home several times a week to a dinner that is ready to eat - and delicious! I have tried about 50% of the recipes and so far, all of them have turned out very well. My favorites are the Fruited Pork Chops, which are so good I served them to my family on Thanksgiving rather than turkey! Other highlights are the Hungarian Goulash, the Garlic Pork Roast with plum sauce and the Cassoulet. Best of all, I always have enough left over for lunch the next day.

On top of this, every recipe has a complete nutrional analysis, so if you are watching carbs, you can choose recipes based on that.

My family and friends love this cookbook - they get to eat the results!

Book Review: At last - a slow cooker cookbook with variety!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely love this cookbook! The recipes aren't all variations on a theme like many crockpot cookbooks. The "Ingredient Substitutions" given for many of the recipes is especially helpful, as are the "Finishing Touches." "Betty's Success Tips" are great because they often explain why you need to use a certain ingredient, or follow a certain procedure. And the desserts are AWESOME! The chocolate rice pudding is addictive, the Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding and the Hot Fudge Sundae Cake are exellent, and the Cherry Cobbler is a favorite with my kids. This is now my favorite crockpot cookbook!

Book Review: Good simple recipes &
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't cook. Plain & simple. So the last thing I need is fancy complicated recipes when I can hardly handle scrambled eggs. This cookbook is awesome! You really can't mess up a crockpot recipe. Grab your ingredients, throw them in and 8 hours later- dinner! I don't have to watch it, I don't have to flip anything. And the recipes are good home-style meals. Hearty & filling. It even gives you ideas/alt. recipes for what to do with your leftovers! It covers beverages, vegetarians, meat-lovers, dessert, and just has a great variety! I would recommend this to anyone that has a crock pot and loves simplicity!
