Book Reviews of Beth Manners' Fun Spanish for Kids: ages 2-6Book Review: captivating CD; excellent for the car. Summary: 4 Stars
Our 3.5 yr. old grand-daughter wanted us to play this every time she got into the car. The presentation is very clear and engaging-- a mix of story, vocabulary, and song. A few more songs would have been nice. The Spanish accent is not the one heard most often in the USA; it is more South American (and the Spanish speaking child on the CD is from South America, we are told). The "ll" or "y" sound is more like a "j" or "ch" sound.
That is my only reservation about this CD, but it doesn't keep me from recommending it.
Book Review: Very Cute Summary: 4 Stars
Borrowed from library. Very cute and within three times of listening, my five year old was walking up to people, saying Hola, and asking their names and how they were doing in Spanish. Many answered him back and he would continue when they asked him his name and how he was doing. I was impressed. Wish there were more CDs or more songs to this one. Some of the punctuation and enunciation is hard because different than what I am used to; but got the ideas across. Very good.
Book Review: Wonderful cd but not necessarily the most common Spanish pronunciation Summary: 4 Stars
We love this cd and will probably purchase the other Manners Spanish disc, but I do struggle with the fact that this is not the Spanish that the other kids around here speak. The pronunciation is not that of Mexico or Spain, but instead is more Peruvian or Argentinian. It would be great to have an alternate of this same program with the other pronunciation. Other than that aspect, it's by far the best kids Spanish cd we've owned.
Book Review: Catchy Tunes Summary: 4 Stars
My 3 year old loves the songs. He always asks me to put the Hola Bobby CD on in the car.
Book Review: It's "okay" Summary: 3 Stars
The kids like to listen to it, but not enough to want to commit to memory. I guess it's just not catchy enough! Ie. Sesame street had a skit on one episode where they sing "you say, 'me llamo'...". It was catchy, so it made it easy to remember. I think I'm going to keep looking for something like that. This cd covers ALOT in 30 min- ie. food nouns, introducing one's self, how to say "i'm thirsty, i'm hungry" verb conjugation of comer (to eat)and hablar (to talk or speak), pronouns, the weather... I think it focuses on too many topics instead of taking 1 concept at a time and making that concept easy to learn. Remember-this is for 2 years old AS WELL as for 6 years-that's a pretty wide range. it may work for a 6 year old but for english speaking 2 year olds -they're still learning those topics in english.
