Book Reviews of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert BookBook Review: Great little book! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker toghether with this book over a year ago, and after reading all the rave reviews. This has been the best purchase I have ever made for my kitchen. I've made many of the recipes in this book, always with terrific results. The best thing is that they give you their base recipes, so once you have that, you can experiment with any flavor combination you dream of (nutmeg is particularily great!). Most recipes require only a few ingredients, most of which you probably have already, and the results are amazing. Also, all recipes can be easily halved, in case your ice cream maker is not as big as they suggest, or in case you just want a smaller batch. All in all, this is a fantastic book, and it's worth every penny.
Book Review: A MUST for anyone with an ice cream maker Summary: 5 Stars
I love this book ... unfortunately I don't seem to be able to hang on to one!! 3 of my Kids have ice cream makers and now all have copies of the book I bought to use with mine ... oh well gonna order number 4 soon.
If you like ice cream, and who doesn't, why not learn from two of the best .. Ben & Jerry.
The recipes are straight forward and easy to make. The results delicious. There are many Ben & Jerry favorites here and an interesting writeup on how these great guys got started.
The cream base(s) gives you a great jump off point to experiment with your own flavous.
Fun to have the Grandkids help out and then eat the results of their fun times.
If you own an ice cream maker THIS BOOK IS A MUST.
Book Review: You won't be disappointed Summary: 5 Stars
If you saw this book on the shelves of a bookstore, chances are you might not pick it up: its layout is almost childish, with large type and lots of illustrations. It's not that thick or impressive. You would most likely drop it in favor of one of the more serious looking, more expensive books. And you would be making a huge mistake. Unlike ice cream recipes I picked up from other "serious" books, every single recipe I've made from this book resulted in amazing ice cream. The butter pecan was heavenly. The cookies & cream perfect. There are lots of little tips and explanations, and anecdotes. Quite possibly the only recipe book you'll ever need for your ice cream maker.
Book Review: Thank you, Ben & Jerry! Summary: 5 Stars
Per the advice of Amazon reviewers, I bought this book along with my first ice cream maker and have been very happy. The recipes are simple yet delicious, and the kids and I have fun thumbing through the book looking for a new flavor to try (can't wait to try Egg Nog). Also cool is the brief story of how Ben and Jerry got started in the ice cream business ~ so glad to see a couple of "Vermont Hippies" triumph over bigger, meaner competitors. :o)
Other recipes include sorbets, sauces, drinks, sundaes and baked goods (bonus!). I haven't gotten that far yet, but I'm considering having a Sunday Brunch just so I can break out scoops of Mimosa Ice. How clever!
Book Review: my favorite ice cream book! Summary: 5 Stars
My boyfriend goes through a couple pints of Chubby Hubby a week, so when we got on an ice cream-making kick I figured I had to buy him this book.
This book WON'T tell you how to fill pretzels with peanut butter to make Chubby Hubby, but it does make really simple and awesome ice cream that can be tweaked in lots of ways. Unlike pretty much every other ice cream book out there, Ben & Jerry stand by making homemade ice cream with raw eggs, which has gotten me by far the best results. We have a few other books on making ice cream, including Lebovitz's "The Perfect Scoop," but I feel like this one has the most straightforward and reliable recipes.
