Book Reviews of Beloved (Plume Contemporary Fiction)Book Review: after 10 years, still my favorite book Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book my freshman year of college and it re-sparked my passion for reading, not to mention Toni Morrison. What an incredible writer. What an incredible book. I am so thankful I read it in an English class where we could disect and discuss every nuance and metaphor. There is much to be learned and discovered on every page. I want to read it again.
Book Review: Brilliant Ambiguity Summary: 5 Stars
What makes this book so great is the ambiguity at its core. Does Beloved return to facilitate Sethe in her self-forgiveness, or does she merely return to haunt her torn mother? A great book, open for much interpretation. A second read lends new ideas and new interpretation. Definitely a book to be studied and, without question, enjoyed.
Book Review: Morrison doesn't miss on this one! Summary: 5 Stars
This book just blew my mind. It tells how life was for slaves and former slaver in the United States. This book will definitely bring up emotions from deep inside the toughest character. This is the story of a family and their past. This is a strong learning experience.
Stop what you are doing and read this one.
Book Review: Excellent-----A work of art Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished reading Beloved. It was wonderful. I was a little hesitant due to all the hype about the difficulty of reading Ms. Morrison's writing. Phooey. This book was not only a great story but excellent histoical literature. The story made me laugh, cry, shudder and think. What a work of art.
Book Review: Beloved - Beautifully written, but prepare to be challenged Summary: 5 Stars
Beloved is amazing. Halfway through, however, I would not have said this. Morrison's work is quite confusing and challenging in places, but rewards those who persevere with a true understanding of her theme and the emotional makeup of her characters. Light reading? No. Worth the effort? Absolutely.
