I agree with the reviewer about the names of the characters. I had the same problem reading the book because I was putting the personalities from Briggs and Harris' characters in this novel instead of letting this author create her own unique characters. It kept throwing me off during my reading. For those of you who don't read Brigg's Mercy books or Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, you wouldn't understand what I mean.
In this novel, Mercy, the heroine, had a terrible childhood (don't worry she doesn't linger--woe is me--over it) in foster care. Really bad considering that she was adopted and her adopted parents sort-of sent her back because they decided they didn't want her after all. All this because she has a power she calls "the press." The plot continues on in the book following the bases of that she gets into trouble one night after using "the press" on her best friend's date. This mole hill turns into a mountain in no time flat and basically, Mercy is in a time crunch to find information and save her friend.
There's action, there is a love interest, and even a dog involved. Andrews leaves space in the novel to grow because she hints (using the bad guy) that Mercy doesn't know where she got her powers...that she doesn't know "what" she is and "who" her parents are. So I'm guessing future novels will involved Mercy trying to figure this out. Over all I thought it was pretty good.
