Book Reviews of the Because of Winn-DixieCustomer Review: A 4th grader's perspective Summary: 3 Stars
My 10-year old son wrote this review for school:
Because Of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo, is an excellent, realistic book about a generous, lonely, and motherless girl named Opal that only wants love. When Opal finds out that she is loved a lot, at the end of the book, she is no longer lonely.
When Opal moves to Naomi, Florida, she finds herself friendless. One day, her dad tells her to go to the grocery store to buy produce, but instead of coming back with food, she comes back with a funny, scruffy, little old dog. Opal is generous enough to care for the dog, who she names Winn-Dixie after the store that she found him in. In return, Winn-Dixie helps Opal make friends and keeps Opal company. As Opal and Winn-Dixie keep trying to make friends, Opal really wished her mom was there to give her good advice.
The book "Because of Winn-Dixie" is mediocre because I feel the words are easy and the plot is slow for fourth graders, but the plot is good. The characters are so different that it is silly Opal is friends with all of them. The book's plot also has some sad parts and some funny parts which makes those sections fun to read and interesting. I recommend this book to anybody that likes relationships or is lonely.
