On the day I received my diagnosis, I was given two books, "Be a Survivor" by Vladimir Lange, and "Living Through Breast Cancer" by Caroly Kaelin.Living Through Breast Cancer - PB
When I first picked up "Living Through Breast Cancer," I couldn't focus on it. There was such a wealth of information! So I put it aside and read "Be a Survivor" from cover to cover. The anatomical drawings, along with the clearly written text, helped me understand what was going on in my breast. Photographs made things like radiation therapy, surgery and reconstruction seem a lot less scary. Best of all are the sidebars that feature survivors' pictures, together with their insightful and encouraging comments.
A month into this adventure, I need details that will help me make informed decisions, and "Living Through Breast Cancer" has provided me with most of them. The author, a breast surgeon who is also a breast cancer survivor, provides in-depth information with lots of encouragement along the way.
I wouldn't want to choose between these two books. Each meets different needs, and each has been priceless. If you are newly diagnosed with breast cancer, you will want to order them both.
