Book Reviews of Basics of Biblical Greek GrammarBook Review: running headlong into greek Summary: 5 Stars
this is a great text book if first of all: if you know your english grammar, and are good with memorization. the problem with this book is that it is the very traditional style of learing (memorize, memorize, memorize) I would recomend you get "New Testament Greek in 30 Minutes a day" because it is a more natral style of learning (no memorization required), but if your good with the traditional textbook style learning then Mounce is for you. Also Mounce is the most widley used textbook in semenaries and universities around the country.
Book Review: A must have for anyone learning Greek at home Summary: 5 Stars
Recently I decided to teach myself Greek. I've attempted it before using other grammars without much success. The main stumbling block for me was that other authors assumed I knew what sujective case or nominative predicate meant. I didn't, but Mounce gives the reader a crash course in English grammar along with the Greek lessons. Learning has actually turned out to be fun and easy! I simply cannot recommend this text highly enough.
The workbook, flash cards and vocabulary CD are great adjuncts to the text.
Book Review: Don't miss the web site Summary: 5 Stars
The only thing I can add to the many positive reviews of this book is to take advantage of the tremendous additional work Mounce has done in the form of a companion web site (http://biblicalgreek.teknia.com). The site has summary audio/powerpoint lectures for each chapter, a page for every vocabulary word with audio clips on pronunciation and memory aids, study guides, exercises and more. Mounce could have easily charged the price of the book again for access, but it's all there for free.
Book Review: Great koine Greek text!!! Summary: 5 Stars
From the beginning you use the bible! It is a wonderful course and the CD that comes in the back of the book is puts you right there in the class room. You will need the workbook. He has a website with extras and the answers to the workbook. I have studied 7 languages and attempted Greek once before, this text is wonderful. He has a novel way of presenting material with a fraction of the memorization of traditional methods. Well executed program. I am translating after 3 weeks.
Book Review: Good for beginners with no Greek background Summary: 5 Stars
This book is being used as a text book in one of my seminary classes. I have learned much from it. Mounce presents the language in small non-intimidating chunks. He WANTS you to learn the language and his approach is helping me to. Yes, there are aspects of Biblical Greek that are difficult, but Mounce's engaging style, exegetical insights, and cd-rom that is included, all combine to guide readers into a usable knowledge of Biblical Greek.
