Book Reviews of Bad Luck and Trouble (Jack Reacher, No. 11)

Book Review: The Hero & Helpers
Summary: 4 Stars

With BAD LUCK AND TROUBLE Lee Child takes our 6 foot five inch 250 pound Robin Hood out for a run with his Not Always Merry Men and Women, this time for revenge against one or more of their own. While I have a problem with the notion of an Army unit being made up solely (or nearly solely) of officers...eh, and properly functioning, I like Jack Reacher's people none-the-less. A pity a few more of them couldn't have been enlisted men or women because the Army likes to say that Sergeants are the backbone of the Army. We former Sergeants like to believe that occasionally some of the officers were a little further down. In the real world it's the enlisted folk that make the Infantry work, that load and fire canons for the Artillery, that make helicopters and airplanes fly, that make better coffee in the morning, better snide remarks during the long work day, and well, you get the picture. Also, there is no 81st Airborne...82nd sure, 101st okay but no 81st...small nits, little pick.
The fact is Lee Child has a good character with Jack Reacher and a good character for the times and come on, folks...who doesn't like to see the good guys win in a manner that befits the crime. Add a Lee Child novel to your reading list. The books, this one included, are well done thrillers and whodunnits.

Book Review: Another Good Jack Reacher Story!
Summary: 4 Stars

In Bad Luck And Trouble, Jack Reacher gets a coded message for help, from a member of his old army unit. A member of the old unit has been found dead in the desert, and a number of others seem to be missing.

This story varies slightly from other Reacher novels, as Reacher is working against the bad guys, with the help of a few of his former colleagues, and not by himself.

I found Reacher's army colleague's interesting, and I was rooting for them all the way, even though we do not learn too much about their characters, or past, other than there were all once very close. It was good to see Reacher's character working with other people, though, in searching for clues, making plans, and putting those plans into action.

However, I thought the bad guys were very one-dimensional, and not really fleshed out, at all. For me, this made the ending something of an anti-climax. Overall, though, an enjoyable read, as always, but not the best in the series.

Book Review: Some Random Thoughts....and gives away the ending--be warned!
Summary: 4 Stars

Yes, i gave it four starts, but this will all be some minor whines:

(1) What's up with Mr. Math? don't remember that skill from previous novels.

(2) okay $65 million dollars, split amonth about 8 family members, and that leaves about only a half-million for the four special investigators to split?

(3) Why did the terrorist bring ALL the missiles and ALL the sub-assemblies to the engineer at the end of the movie? why not go in with a handful of each and learn how to assemble them and not put the whole lot of them at risk?

(4) I understand that there may be a Jack Reacher movie....eventuall....one day....first thought to play him was Dolph Lundgren, but maybe he's getting too old.

Book Review: Lots of twist and turns
Summary: 4 Stars

I've read some of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels. I would say that this novel might be his best. I thought the book had every thing that a great suspense novel should have: a great plot, realistic characters, suspense and lots of twist and turns. If you enjoy the Reacher series I'd recommend this book.

Book Review: Good As Usual!
Summary: 4 Stars

As mentioned, this was pretty good, but I kept hoping for a little more action. That being said, I still enjoyed, especially the payback. Reacher and company work well together. Hope to see a return by the others in a future novel.
