Book Review: Align with current research!

These Bob books are amongst the few that really align with current research into reading. The National Reading Panel (USA) recommends teaching by phonics. The National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy (Australia) and The Rose Report (England) also recommend systematic phonics. Basically this means teaching young children letter/sound relationships and then letting them read words WITH THE LETTER/SOUND RELATIONSHIPS WHICH THEY HAVE LEARNED AND NO OTHERS and then gradiently incresing that knowledge and gradiently reading more complex books.Unfortuately, inspite of the research, teachers are still introducing words like 'butterfly' and 'elephant' to kindergarteners instead of sat, hat and Sam as in the BOB books.It is hard to find books that align with the research. I haven't checked out the whole series but this set of BOB books is perfect. They are fabulous.
