Book Reviews of Autobiography of a Yogi

Book Review: I still thrill to each chapter!
Summary: 5 Stars

Reading this book at the age of forty-two was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. From the beginning chapter, I felt like I had finally come home. This was the life I had always wished was possible but never dreamed it could be!

I just now finished listening to Chapter 23 as I was driving to a restaurant. I've listened to the audiobook version, read by Ben Kingsley, a few times now and it never fails to thrill me. Everything in this book resonates in harmony with who I am and who I wish to be. I was already teaching classes on spirituality by the time I encountered this inspiring book and was amazed at how much deeper it took me in my knowledge and practice.

Yogananda teaches that direct contact with God is possible through the application of scientific yoga principles. After practicing his techniques, which have been handed down for thousands of years by Indian sages, I have reached ever higher levels of peace, happiness and alignment with what Yogananda's beloved guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar, calls "that supreme intelligence which governs everything."

May this magnificent book enrich your spiritual life as it has mine!

Book Review: Causing me to re-examine yoga and spirituality
Summary: 5 Stars

A friend gave me this to read on my holiday flights. I couldn't put it down! It's giving me a whole new perspective on Christianity, Hinduism, yoga, and personal development. I've always wanted a way to find the spiritual core that should be at the root of real religions - and yet respect a humanistic and scientific/practical approach to improving the world.
This man's life shows me for the first time what Christ-like living could look like in the modern world.
I've already sent to the SRF publishers for his meditation "lessons". I always thought of meditation as impossible for a busy consultant in the real world. I'm now thinking that it may open the way to new ways to help all of humanity as we struggle to live together.
I may even reconsider my rejection of the "God" concept. I really liked Yogananda's phrase, "Those who find it impossible to believe in the immortality of any MAN... will at last discover the immortality of their own SELVES." That could work for me ;)

Book Review: The Skeptic's Thanks
Summary: 5 Stars

It is no small feat to admit that this book changed my life, but in many ways, it has. I've never been a so-called spiritual person, nor a great believer in anything mystical, or beyond what most of us consider reality; being a non-practicing Catholic for a number of years, I have since become somewhat of a convert. It is due in part to a conscious searching for something higher, but I consider Paramhansa Yogananda's magnificent autobiography the greatest catalyst in my newly established path to spiritual freedom. It is a great mind opener, it is entertaining and, I believe, accessible to anyone willing to listen. I am practicing yoga almost every day now and I am going to church again. I have found something better than what society considers the most desirable rewards. I have found the deeper meaning of love and I encourage people to set aside their skepticism, take a chance, and learn about the meaning of life.

Book Review: One of the most important books ever published
Summary: 5 Stars

This book succeeds on so many different levels. It changed my life. It is fabulously entertaining but at the same time has incredible depth. I've read it countless times and listen to the audio version (narrated nicely by Sir Ben Kingsley) on a regular basis. Chapter 43 is possibly the most important chapter of a book EVER. The chapter details the resurrection of Yogananda's Guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar. Sounds like hyperbole, right? Check it out for yourself. There aren't enough superlatives to adequately describe this book. I suggest that every person on the planet should read this! Even if you fight spirituality with every fiber of your being, it still provides an intimate glimpse of the world at one of the most tumultuous periods in world history: the 1930's. Most importantly, the book encourages each person to make a sincere effort in order to know God. What could be more important?

Book Review: Someone has opened his heart for all
Summary: 5 Stars

In fact I read this after I read the book ""God Talks to Arjuna"by Paramhansa Yogananda. The variuos terminology given in the book and the Kriya Yoga has attaracted me to become a member of the Yogoda Satsang Society and get the lessons. I have never read any other Auto Biography so vivid and truthful account of what transpires the young man seeking God. Though I was at the age of 49/50 at the time of reading this book in the year 1997 the details are still very much deeply imprinted on my mind as if I have read it now. This shows as to how much this book has the powerful grip of the Author and one has to read only once.
I strongly recommmend this book to those who wants to do something different than eating , sleeping , producing kids and vanishing away like any other insects than Human.
