Book Reviews of Autobiography of a Yogi

Book Review: Mr. Belize
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has totally changed my life for the good. It's been five years since I first read it and to this day it continues to bestow great blessings. As I progress spiritually in calmness and realization this biography gives ever new meaning. I attest that this book and this path is not for everyone. After my initial excitement I wanted to share it with everyone but I soon learn that to some, it was just a story. For myself, my heart jumped after the initial read. I knew I found what I have been looking for after so many years. I had read many books from other paths and although I was intrigued, none made me feel the way I did when I read this book. The difference was that none of those were written by my Guru, Paramahansa Yoganada. Reading this book, I was able to understand the other books written by other writers. I was able to understand truths hidden within songs and poetry. Yogananda never asked anyone to take His word for it but rather, prove it to yourself by practicing the techniques. I am still but a student but I could say that I have proven enough in my life that there is absolutely no reason for me to doubt anything Yoganada wrote. And I will continue to reap the benefits of his meditational techniques, which is primarily a direct relationship with God, to the end of my stay here on Earth and into the after life.

Book Review: Enlightening, Enchanting, Exhilirating
Summary: 5 Stars

Sri Paramhansa Yogananda ji presents his experiences in such a way that when you read through the book, you feel that spiritual charge flowing through yourself.

When he writes about his various meetings with the spiritual souls and their way of living, you feel that you are availing the golden opportunity of meeting them.

He writes with such conviction, that you have to sit up and think about the purpose of your and my being here. Why are we all here? What do various things that we come accross signify.

When you read through the book, it is but unavoidable to actually get involved into what he writes. Each writeen word adds new dimension to what is being explained.

His description of his spiritual experiences can find no match (at least I feel that) with what others might even think to write. It is evident from what he writes, that he himself was a man of great spiritual experiences. Such that might not even have heard about earlier.

A great book...

Worth numerous readings...

Even if I pick the book up today and read some parts of it, I literally feel the spiritual charge flowing through me. Anyone who reads the book just can't help becoming an ardent reader of Guruji's books. He is a fabulous writer and what he writes is still more bewildering.

Happy reading...

Book Review: A SPIRITUAL REVELATION and Modern Legacy.
Summary: 5 Stars

Paramahansa Yogananda, a modern 20th century Yoga Master, who is living example of all that he wrote about, shows the reader a new and balanced approach to the spiritual life. He makes it clear, practical and sensible as well as appealing. You won't be able to put it down till it's finished. The recent editions with the orange covers, are His most up to date editions, which also includes the 49th chapter, and enhancemets made by Him and his appointed editors in chief before and after 1952. These most recent editions also give the reader a very complete view to Yogananda's final meanings.

This truly remarkable autobiography will help the reader understand the purpose of life and how to reach true fulfillment.

This work gives the reader an excellent overview of comparative religion and how to appreciate all true prophets and creeds.

Paramahansa Yogananda established the Self-Realization Fellowship to represent Babaji's line of Masters and disseminate his teachings and Kriya Yoga world-wide.

Also recommended: "God Talks With Arjuna", see Pages 426 & 427 where Yogananda makes the above declaration clear. --This text refers to the paperback edition of this title

Book Review: The Best Book I've Read to Date!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Paramahansa Yogananda, a beautiful Saint from the soul of the earth (India) captured my attention on page one and had it all the way to the very end. And now I miss him! The timelessness of his words, the rapture of his soul, and the gentleness of his humor poured off of every page. One may wonder and perhaps even dismiss the supernormal miracles that were present in this book as wonderful but fanciful thinking. But consider that an electron (one of the basic building blocks of matter) has no objective existence, and you can see that consciousness is the one, true power and that the consciousness of Aum is the only thing really conscious at all anyway.......well one can see that someone who has transcended object-subject, (i.e. duality) may in fact no longer be subject to boundaries.

As for the actual writing, there is not one college student that I know of today that has the command of the English language that Sri Yogananda had/has. I think they went a little footnote crazy, but in this case, the more information the better. I wish there had been a bit of discussion as to his final exit, even if it was done posthumously from the SRF.

This book was in a word, Godly.

Book Review: East meets West
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great book. After years of reading Carlos Castaneda books--I've never read the Bible but plan to someday--I felt my mind open with Yogananda's autobiography.

This is because there is a one sidedness to Shamanism, which may stem from the fact that Native Americans never had a chance to reflect on their religion, and how it contrasts with Western Civilization. Yet Yogananda does just that . . .

In the context of his own life, he relays the stories, and myths, that shape his spiritual progression through life. There are some real mind blowing chapters in this book that force the reader to step back and think. However, it is cleverly interlaced with Western tradition so that any average American could read this book and not be offended.

That is the mission Yogananda's gurus sent him out to accomplish. This book is the product of that goal.

Still, my favorite part of this book is a passage about Alexander the Great. I've only heard the Western Civilization stories about his military conquests. But in this book Yogananda speaks of the one conquest Alexander could not complete, the conquest of India's spirit.
