Book Reviews of Audition: A Memoir

Book Review: Rare Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I commend Ms. Walters for writing such an honest, many times amusing and very interesting account of her life. As I was reading about her problems with some of the men who treated her so badly I remember John Wayne telling someone (I don't remember who) say 'Don't let the bastards get you down'. And she certainly didn't. She has outlasted and in many cases has outlived them all. I've not finished reading the book yet but so far it has been very interesting, heartwarming and I am enjoying every page.

Book Review: Audition by Barbara Walters
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent autobiography. As a young girl in the 60's, I usually had my breakfast watching Barbara Walters on the Today Show. I took her role as a female broadcasting pioneer for granted so reading her memoir was certainly an eye-opening experience. Probably, I would not have chosen to read this book but it was selected by my bookclub as our July selection. I am so glad I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was like a history lesson of the later part of the 20th century but written in a fresh and relevant style.I have always admired Ms. Walters but hold her in even more awe now; especially, since she is still working as hard as ever in this demanding profession! I hope she will write a sequel one day.

Book Review: BARBARA WALTERS AUDITION
Summary: 5 Stars

Here I am in Australia possibly one of a few to own the book as it is not due to hit our shelves until at least December. I received the book last night and sat up and read nearly half the book before I had to concede to sleep. She is a very interesting woman and the people she has met and interviewed is mind blowing and at the same time this intimate travel through Babara Walters life displays the humble and human side of her. I am betting that by late this evening I will have finished the book, because it was so hard to put down.

I would recommend it to anyone - even if you don't know the first thing about this lady. A book well worth buying.

Book Review: Great book!
Summary: 5 Stars

Really, this is a fascinating read and it is very well written. It is highly mesmerizing-you just can't put it down-It took me one day to complete it. Reading about her trials and tribulations on wer way to fame makes you feel privileged that she is sharing her life story with you. I do admit that one thing I was not too keen on, was the fact that she revealed the identity of some affairs, more particularly the married ones, separated or not. Her journey is amazing and quite revealing, and I finished the book feeling enriched in the knowledge that I acquired about the news industry, her interviews and her lifestory. Great book!

Book Review: "Audition" It's a winner!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was pleasantly surprised with the book. I love history and it gave me a view of real life during that time in that place. I learned about New York in the first half of the century as well as very interesting stories of immigrants coming to the U.S. in the early 1900's. The last half of the book told more about interesting famous people of the time interviewed by Barbara and told about things most people don't know about them. I learned that Barbara is living a very "full" life. I couldn't put it down. I've been talking it up with other readers.
