Book Reviews of Audition: A Memoir

Book Review: Review of Barbara Walters book
Summary: 5 Stars

I greatly enjoyed Barbara Walters memoir she recently wrote. It was very interesting to read about her childhood. I knew a little bit about it, but not a whole lot.

I thought she was very candid in the way she discussed some of her personal life as well as her very exciting professional life. I feel that she made sure with certain people that it was "ok" to disclose certain things that happened in her past. What an exciting life she has led so far!! For being someone who is a bit "shy", she certainly was able to get some of the most interesting and exciting interviews. I love how she talked about her interview with Clint Eastwood and her "what if?" question to herself at the end.

I would recommend the book to anyone. Even though it was nearly 600 pages it was a "fast" and interesting read. Thank you Barbara for opening
up like you to so that people got to know who the "real you" is!

Book Review: Best Memoir Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I was riveted by Barbara Walter's memoir, Audition. It was a fascinating read and frankly, a great reminder of the history through which I have lived. When I was younger, I missed some of those historic interviews due to youthful disinterest. As an older woman, I am now a political junkie and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Walter's interviews in the first part of her career. I appreciated the fact that she didn't clutter the book with the actor celebrity interviews with which our current society seems so obssessed. This was also a great reminder of all that Barbara Walters did to break the barriers for women in the news/entertainment industry. I would suggest this book to younger women as a history lesson since some of them seem to take so much for granted. As Barbara Walters focused and worked her way up the hierarchy of the communications world, she also changed it for everyone following her, female and male.

Book Review: Please don't miss this Audition!
Summary: 5 Stars

From rubbing noses with the Dalai Lama to turning down a dinner invitation from Clint Eastwood (Barbara, how could you?) this memoir paints a vivid life picture of this plucky yet lovable journalist.

Despite her greatness, it is comforting to know that she is a real person, making tough life choices. At times she was weak, and certainly guilt ridden about having to leave her daughter behind when she traveled, but she was and is also courageous, kind, persistent, beautiful and passionate.

Flying through the books pages on Barbara's coat-tails made me feel as though I was there, seeing events and conducting interviews through her eyes. I'm thankful for Barbara Walters. Her passion for life continues to blaze a trail for every woman willing to open her eyes and see her destiny. Amazing book. Amazing woman.

Book Review: A fantastic book!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved it! I will admit that I needed a lesson on most of the historical facts that were in this book, which was a lot. I found it interesting and written with a sense of humor. I am 33 years old, so I have only known Barbara Walters as the success she has become. I had no idea what she went through to get there. I watch "The View" and I watch her Specials, I occasionally watch "20/20" (if I see a preview for something that interests me). The only negative thing about this book is that it was my nighttime reading material, so because of it's size it was a litte hard to manage while laying down...minor complaint. Women should know what she did for the business, whether your in journalism or not. I think setting a precedent like she did HAD to trickle down to other careers as well. We all, as women, owe a thank you to Barbara.

Book Review: Overplugged, but definitely worth a read
Summary: 5 Stars

BW drives me up the wall every damn time she plugs this freakin' book on the View. If it's not her, then it's Whoopi or Elisabeth. As much as it pisses me off, this book is worth a read. Of course the chapter covering the Star and Rosie controversies is here, but that's just the icing on the cake. I learned alot of things about Babs I never knew before, like her complicated but loving relationships with her mentally challenged sister and adopted daughter and all of her marriages. All 4 of them. The chapters about her many specials and interviews over the years are especially interesting. I was very surprised that BW "let her hair down" so to speak and revealed things like her interracial affair. So Miss BW isn't as squeaky clean as we thought, huh? I guess there's nothing more I can say that hasn't been said already. Pick it up!
