Book Review: Perfect sequel to a great first book

Just as soon as a reader puts the first book (Visions of Power) down, they can pick up this book and continue to enjoy following the adventures of Alec as he seems to grow up before our eyes. In this book the teenage Alec has to overcome the disgrace of being forced out of Goldenfields, and coming to the powerful city of Oyster Bay. He starts out at a big disadvantage among all the ingenairii who have special powers, and who use them to abuse Alec. But Alec shows strength of chararcter as he goes through a series of challenging events. The writing is still just as smooth and creates a new set of locations and situations and new characters that are enjoyable to learn about. Alec also starts to deal with more of that teenage boy consideration of girls, and his struggles in that area help to flesh out his story even more. The battle scene and combat are also a nice addition to the story without being excessively gory.
Summary of At The Seat of Power: Goldenfields and the Dominion
Alec has left Goldenfields after false rumors destroy the joy he has found there. Now he will reside in Oyster Bay, home of the king's court and Ingenairii Hill, where Alec will be trained in mastery of the ingenairii energies. His clean start in Oyster Bay will be challenged by politics and jealousies and jockeying for power as the old order starts to crumble. Even when he tries to keep to himself, Alec will stumble into trouble. The possibilities of healing and warrior power beckon Alec, and his potential is great, if he stays focused. But an old acquaintance will return, and all hope for a peaceful stay in Oyster Bay will end! Only his solace through miraculous healing can carry Alec until the call comes to return to Goldenfields, but will he be able to find peace serving in the court he was banished from? Promises of power, honor and romance tempt Alec as he learns that he has greater potential than he ever realized, if he can follow Aristotle's advice.Literature & Fiction Books
