I love this book, first off the author has created something that no other zombie novel has ever had. Real female characters, and not just some one dimensional crying wimps who scream and thrash and refuse to do anything helpful. Also she steered away from the cold calculated chick with military training who we don't buy into because she has no emotions and is one dimensional from the other direction. Does that make sense? Of course not, that is why you have to read this book, its so good I can't even describe it properly. I finished this book in a little over 24 hours from getting it in the mail after ordering it and immediately turned around and had to read it again. Rhiannon is amazing. I love Katie and Jenni as if I have known them my whole life. It is easy to love characters this well written. The bond Rhiannon has created between these two women is fascinating and you as the reader feel it too. After getting over her initial shock Jenni comes out of her shell in a way you don't expect when you begin the book. Speaking of that...
Ok the first chapter in this book is, I would say one of the best openings of any book I have ever read. The thing is that an author wants to grab you with the first page, and make you turn that page and so on and pull you right into the book from the opening sentence. Well this first page and in fact the whole first chapter pulls you in BIG TIME! It is so intense and so real, it is so raw and horrifying that you will have no choice but to read more. You see its a hard thing to do, to pull someone into your story and invest themselves in your characters alot of the time I will read the first page and if I don't care or am not into it then I set the book right back down and find another. With this book it is impossible not to turn that page, if you have a love of the gruesome or if you have a heart at all you will instantly feel bad for this poor woman and want to find out what is going on. Trust me buying this book will change the way you think about zombie novels. Out of the three or four I have read since reading this book, I must say only one even came close to achieving what Rhiannon makes seem soo effortless, the rest while good pale in comparison. And that is brilliance. This book shines, in fact it outshines all the other novels I have read in this genre.
This book, is quite simply the best Zombie Novel of all time.
Until she finishes Book 2 that is.
Madam you had me at the opening line, and now I am a fan for life.
