Book Reviews of Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 2

Book Review: Big Improvement over "A Worflow Guide..."
Summary: 4 Stars

This book is a big improvement over "Aperture 2: A Workflow guide for Digital photographers" ( McMahon & Rawlinson) which I also ( unforunately) bought. While there are some minimal assumptions that the reader is already an experienced MAC and iPhoto user, these are minimal. Big difference is the step-by-step approach with pretty good screen shots and a solid attempt at editing the book to use the whole page (and therefore minimize the white space) and to display the pictures on the same page as the text. Seems basic but the Focal Press editor of the other referenced work seems never to of heard of these basic composition and editing techniques. I am looking forward to using the accompanying disk to really learn aperture from scratch and, presumably, in a fuller more methodical way.

Book Review: A work book
Summary: 4 Stars

This book comes with a DVD with media files to load to a Mac and then follows step by step on hands learning for work flow within Aperture 2.
The book starts with the basics in a Getting Started chapter outlines system requirements, setting up the environment and system preferences, calibrating display while explaining methodology and course structure, as well as outlines chapters that are for importing and organizing, image editing and printing.
I believe it would be quite useful to anyone new or casually familiar and yet serious about using Aperture 2.

Book Review: Great for beginners to the program but has shortcomings after that.
Summary: 4 Stars

As a newbie to Aperture 2 I was drawn to this book for it's step-by-step training format, and it does that very well. After going through the training I still have the need for a tightly organized reference resource, which is where this book falls short IMO, you have to go back through each lesson to find what you are looking for. The bottom line is that the book does what it's advertised to do very well but it's not the be-all, end-all book for Aperture 2.

Book Review: Great combo for learning Aperture
Summary: 4 Stars

The book and content are excellent. Would have been nice to use the included CD, but my iMac froze 4 times when the CD was inserted. Never got it to work and no contact was listed to rectify the problem.

UPDATE: See my last comments below. CD replaced promptly by publisher after others directed me to the correct place. Thanks to all.

Book Review: APERTURE 2
Summary: 4 Stars

I found this book to be very helpful . It`s a tough read if you are using aperture for the first time . I really don`t know if they could of made it any easer . but over all I really enjoyed and constantly use it as a reference when needed . Tom Lavery
