Book Reviews of Anticancer: A New Way of LifeBook Review: One of the most important books you can read Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoy reading about health and nutrition, and I have slogged through a lot of scientific writing-- so I completely appreciate the superb job that Dr. Servan-Schreiber has done with this book. What struck me was the HEART that he shows in the writing. He clearly cares about this subject and about the people he can help with his message. I have never read a nutrition/health book before that moved me to tears multiple times. I think this person has written one of the most important books of our time, right alongside The China Study by Dr. Campbell. The implications of the recommendations he makes can ultimately affect our food industry, our public health policy, and our politics-- if we take action. (After you read this, watch the movie "Food, Inc." if you have not already seen it.) Dr. Servan-Schreiber, THANK YOU for the gift of your effort and caring in making this book come to life.
Book Review: Great book Summary: 5 Stars
I have been reading many books about healthy eating, and this is the best. I believe we need more prevention in our medical care rather than just treating the disease when it happens. The benefits of exercise have been well documented. Positive mental attitude is on of the author's recommendations which I really need to work on. At last it seems we have some sanity in the advice given by many experts in the field of nutrition. If you want specifics on a healthful diet, I recommend Mark Bittman's Food Matters. His advice is so simple--eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and whole grains; eat less meat and dairy products, and try to eliminate junk food. And a personal testimony: for the last year I have followed this advice; the food I eat is delicious and filled with nutrients. Wherever possible, I buy locally to help the environment. No more rice a roni!
Book Review: Anyone who has had cancer, or wants to prevent cancer, should read this book! Summary: 5 Stars
I read my sister's copy of this book while I was visiting her last weekend. It is very easy to read. As someone who has been studying wellness, healthy diets, anti-inflammatory diets, this information wasn't new to me, but it was good to see how it all related specifically to cancer. The author's personal story is interwoven throughout the book, which made it very personal and made it a nice narrative, rather than just a dry book. I have been recommending it to patients who have had cancer. In general, this anti-cancer diet is no different from the anti-inflammatory diet, which makes sense as inflammation sets the stage for cancers. The author explains the research behind his claims, and the book is very well-referenced. It also touches on the mind and spirit aspect of wellness, which are very important aspects of dealing with and healing from cancer.
Book Review: Such a good source of knowledge Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, this book is incredible. I have learned so much about the cancer disease and how to eat things to help my body. It makes so much sense that dependent on what we eat, the cancer will propagate or not. And the impact of emotional stress and our lifestyle. I thank the author for putting himself out there and giving us a look into his life as a cancer patient and survivor. I am blessed by his knowledge, and I plan to make changes to my diet, stress and well-being. This is a must read for everyone! Because those who do not have cancer should do all they can to live a life that will give them the least probability of getting it. No one knows for sure, and this book does not claim to have the one answer, but it does provide a philosophy and understanding that is really insightful and helpful to understanding our world and the disease.
Book Review: Traveling on the same path... Summary: 5 Stars
When I stumbled upon this book I was simply amazed to read that the author had asked the same questions I asked my doctors and he received the same answers I got which was "there is nothing you can do for yourself". Grrr...
I searched and searched the internet for answers as I wanted to fight my cancer or at the very least make a big improvement in my survivability. In time I learned to change my diet drastically (adding omega-3 via flaxseed oil), exercise daily, get out into the Sun, and learn to meditate to reduce stress. I now follow the Budwig protocol which basically agrees with the author's suggestions.
I wish I had found this book sooner as it would have shortened my search for answers. Nonetheless, I love the book and highly recommend it to everyone who needs a good dose of reality about cancer.
