Book Reviews of Anticancer: A New Way of LifeBook Review: The confirmation of all my research - Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
My husband has just had a recurrence of his colon cancer, and now he is about to undergo radiation and chemo. In my desperation to figure out whether there was a way to prevent this, I started reading everything I could - on the Internet, books, documentaries. I kept a note of all the foods that were supposed to help and changes that I would have to make to our lifestyle. When I finally read Anticancer, it was a summation of everything I had found out, but with much more detail. I trust this man and I believe him. We are doing this to ourselves. I am starting to make the changes so that when my husband has finished his chemo, I will build up his immune system and he will never have cancer again. If you have cancer, read it. And spread the word. America's future depends on us all eating the way that man was supposed to eat - not genetically modified, cruelty free, chemical free, additive free, hormone free, and disease free.
Book Review: Both well-researched and well-written Summary: 5 Stars
Dr.David Servan-Schreiber has managed to write a book that is informative, as well as personal. He details his own bout with cancer, and tells how it affected him both personally and professionally. The program he outlines in preventing cancer is based on extensive research, and his rationale for suggesting these techniques make sense. He goes against western medical tradition in that most medical professionals are more interested in treating existing cancers, instead of preventing them. In his philosophy of tuning into the mind-body continuum, Servan-Schreiber goes against the prevailing medical thought, but also offers a great service to people who may be at risk for cancer onset. As he points out, we all harbor potential tumors in our bodies, and this book tells how to prevent those tumors from taking hold and spreading. Those who follow his advice will be doing much to prevent cancer onset, of that I have no doubt.
Book Review: a must read for newly diagnosed cancer patients Summary: 5 Stars
The author, in a you tube video, says he wished he'd had this book when he was first diagnosed with cancer and I feel the same. I was so happy to find a book that gave me great information which has helped me make changes to my diet, my activity level and the way I handle stress; which all contribute to help my body fight cancer. I brought the book to my last oncology appointment and my doctor plans to read it after he and I talked at length about the information. I felt that I didn't know the questions to ask until I'd read this and it also prompted some good discussions with my friends and family who are all making healthy changes.
I appreciate the easy to understand information. This book is not a sales pitch for nutritional supplements or seminars. It is a book that will give you the information to help you make good decisions and gain some feeling of control about your health and well being.
Book Review: Good for the daughter! Summary: 5 Stars
One of my co-workers, who has been battling prostate cancer, recommended this book to me after my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer, too.
I read through the first third of the book in the first couple of nights before passing it along to my dad. The research was fascinating, and, I appreciated the approach the author took. The author comes at it from several different angles of research, making you feel that achieving a cancer-free, healthful life is a very attainable process. For me it all made sense, and gave me a couple of "Aha!" moments. The book seems to give things "ala carte", so you can opt to make any/all changes you feel would make sense for you. It's not an all-or-nothing deal. But, the more you do, the better you feel about it. Now, I just have to re-purchase the book so I can have my own copy... to finish, and for reference. This book is changing my life for the better, too.
