Book Reviews of Anticancer: A New Way of LifeBook Review: A book to share with Everyone !!! Summary: 5 Stars
In "Anticancer: A New Way of Life" David Servan-Schreiber M.D. has written a wonderful accompaniment to Colin Campbell, Ph.D.'s "The China Study. Dr. S-S's writing style is clear and concise. He has the gift of being able to make the scientific understandable to all of us. A comprehensive approach to complementary ways of fighting cancer are presented with warmth and caring. After reading "The China Study", I immediately ordered a dozen copies for family and friends. I will do the same with this wonderful book. As a physician, I understand all too well the profound deficit in nutritional education that plagues our medical schools. Thus excellent physicians are woefully uneducated in how the food we eat affects our ability to either promote illness or contribute to our health and well being. This book is comprehensive, including the scientific, nutritional, exercise/physical and the mind/body in a very user friendly way. It is just as important for those of us who are currently healthy as it is for those of us engaged in a battle against cancer. And the possibilities for changes in our children and grandchildren are very encouraging.
Book Review: why cancer is epidemic and what lifestyle changes may limit it--an inspiring and motivational book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very readable book written by a doctor who twice developed brain cancer. He was dissatisfied with the lack of information he received on how to avoid future cancer episodes so he started researching cancer. He discovered that even in populations with low incidence of cancer, people who died from other causes often had microtumors in their bodies and he wondered why the tumors remained small. He searched out information on what limits and what stimulates cancer growth and presents that information in this book. He also discusses why cancer is prevalent (epidemic) and concludes it is due to 3 factors: environment (pollution & chemicals in our food); the type of food that we eat and the stressful and also sedentary nature of our lives. He gives specific (non-drug) suggestions for lifestyle changes that people can take to improve all 3 of these areas and feels that there are no harmful side effects from his suggestions, only the possibility of improved health. After reading it, I am buying 2 copies of this book -- one for me to keep for reference and lifestyle change and one for a friend who is going through chemotherapy
Book Review: Well-documented guide to nutritional cancer-fighting Summary: 5 Stars
As a stage-4 cancer patient, I find the dietary recommendations in Anti-Cancer to be an excellent adjunct to regular medical treatment (chemo) plus regular chiropractic to stay as healthy as possible while living with cancer. Using all three approaches, I am so far having improved quality of life, less discomfort, and am able to enjoy increased vitality every day, though my cancer is not considered to be "curable." The book offers suggested foods that have been shown to be efficacious against specific cancer types in addition to listing foods that are generally good for creating environments less encouraging to cancer cell development and growth. The center section has colorful, slick-paged lists and charts conveniently located for quick reference; the rest of the book is in a friendly, accessible style with interesting anecdotes of good outcomes from eating properly. Written for the average reader, not highly technical in style. (And I must admit, I still eat Frosted Flakes now and then, though I rarely have since childhood. One needs a few creature comforts...)
Book Review: Amazing Book Summary: 5 Stars
I have never written a review before, but this book has changed my life and I want everyone to read this so I am taking the time to write one now.
I consider myself a healthy person (I workout, eat "right", etc.), however I now even am not buying organic meat anymore and used to drink decaf coffee and now switched to decaf green tea when I read how many things it does right for your body. Also, I had no idea that something like sunflower oil is not optimal for your health compared with olive oil (I was buying organic pretzels that had sunflower oil and thought I was being healthy!)....
He writes his book so that everyone can understand and yet it provides enough medical research to back up his findings and theories that he is proving. It also brings you close to him when he explains how his cancer affected his life.
Cancer runs in my family and I think about growing up how we had to make sure we had protein (meat) at every meal to be healthy and drink milk, etc. Organic was not mainstream in those days!
This is a must read.
Book Review: A Must-Read for Everyone! Summary: 5 Stars
Being a mom of two small children, I rarely have time to read a book from start to finish without interruption. However, the day I bought this book I had read 40 pages in one sitting and only put it down because the hours sped past midnight before I knew it! I'm very impressed with how Dr. Servan-Schreiber is able to break down extremely complex subjects in cellular and molecular biology in such a way that everyone can understand them. Cancer runs in my family, so I'm always trying to stay current on the science of living healthfully in order to avoid it. This book explains vital information about how to do that. It thoroghly describes what cancer is, how it behaves, and what things are necessary for it to grow. Then Dr. Servan-Schreiber shows you how to deprive a cancer of those things, thus avoiding mestasteses and prolonging life.
Given the cancer epidemic we are currently experiencing in the West, I truly believe this is an important book for everyone to read. You won't regret buying this one.
