Book Reviews of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young GirlBook Review: "Simply Remarkable" Summary: 5 Stars
A year ago, I was forced to read this book by my english teacher... At first, looking at the cover, (it was red with a picture of a girl) I had an impression that i would not enjoy reading it...
After a couple of days, i was surprised to see myself bringing the book everywhere I go... During break times, lunch, and spend 2 full hours reading it at home...
Reading this diary, made me picture how Anne had her teenage life.. It was really different from mine. Nothing beats how a 13 year old girl manage to live a life like a prisoner in the attic. No other friends to talk too... Same people she sees every single day... In a small place called the "Secret Annexe".
Can you imagine that that kind of life? That you have no idea if you can eat or not, if you should talk or remain silent for the whole day... or if you can still get out of that Annex and live a normal life again... Can you imagine??? But still, they remained hopeful until the last air they breathe...
For me, those people are the real heroes. They never gave up. They sacrificed and united. And best of all, their faith in God reamined strong.
This book influenced millions and millions of people from all over the world. This is a real story of a real world... And the fact that this happens too to so many people. Sometimes we ask, "Why do we need to repeat History?"
Read this book and you'll realize that this is different, worth it and remarkable...
Book Review: Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl Summary: 5 Stars
It was interesting reading Anne Frank's Point of views to the holocaust in her diary. I got more of a sence of what was happening during this frightening time period and what it was like to hide behind a bookcase for 13 months. She said that the Natzi's would make them stand in a line for hours so they could count to make sure that everyone was there and nobody had escaped. They would go to bed and freeze and depend on body warmth. She said children asked the officers where their parents were and the officers pointed to the chimney and said there are you're parents and you will be there too. She described how when children took showers they never came back because the showers were really gas chambers. She said when she was working in the field she saw men, women, and children collapse in the field and see dead bodies be thrown in the ground. Before she and her family went into hiding, she was talking about hanging out with a boy named Harry who she liked a lot and how times were great. She was a mischevious girl just like all girls. Talking about boys, worrying about exams, teasing the siblings and more. But when she was in the camp, she was lonely, frightend for her life and her families praying that they would make it out ok. But today we know that only one person of her family survived. And that was her father. I highly highly recomend this book,it will take your breath away!!! When you read this book you will visualize it and say wow this really happend in the world.
Book Review: The Diary of Anne Frank Summary: 5 Stars
When I picked up this book for the first time I was afraid it will be a typical Holocaust-book with concentration camps and lots of suffering. Instead it turned out to be a somewhat typical (though exceptionally well-written) collection of records of the everyday life of a teen I could more or less identify with, and it was a surprising and welcomed feeling. Even though it was written decades ago, the diary is so fresh and vivid we feel like we knew Anne personally, and she is so optimistic, so full of life that when the diary abruptly comes to an end, it couldn't be more shocking to see the empty pages after her last entry. The thought of so much optimism, so much vitality being crushed between the cruel hands of history is even more heartbreaking when one knows that if she held on for just a few weeks more, she would have survived it.
I read both the old and the new edition of the diary. Yes, the Anne of the old edition is more likeable, but the Anne of the new edition is more real. Sometimes I felt like I was an intruder in Anne's private life when reading about her innermost secrets, and I can only hope she really meant it to be published.
I believe the diary is genuine. I know very well that girls aged 14-15 usually don't write this well, but she might have been the exception. Some say it was written by her father, but the optimistic tone of the diary is not that of a person who lost all his family in a death camp.
Book Review: A Great Read Summary: 5 Stars
I am shocked to see so many negative comments about this book! I think that the previous (negative)reviewers are forgetting that this was not written to entertain - it is a diary not a novel! People should realize when they read this that they are reading a piece of history. How lucky we are to have this - a diary from the war - it is a treasure! I admire Anne Frank. Some negative reviewers said that there is nothing to admire about Anne - that she only reacted to a situation that she had no choice but to be in. They also stated that she is not a good writer - but I disagree. I admire the way she was able to see herself and to be able to put her thoughts and feelings into words. I tried keeping a diary myself, but found that the only things I put in it were descriptions of my daily events - I was unable to portray any emotion or feelings. I loved this book because it is about the holocaust which is one of the most significant events in history. It is an easy way to learn about the holocaust. Obviously if someone is looking for extensive knowledge regarding this then a diary of a young lady is not the right type of book. But for those of you who would like to learn about it from someone who was there - then this is the book for you. And, for those who have negative comments - try keeping a diary and let's see if yours is interesting enough to be published - let alone considered to be one of the best books of all time!
Book Review: Remarkable Summary: 5 Stars
What is remarkable about Anne Frank's diary, more than that it has survived for an audience of readers, is Anne Frank's mature outlook on life and the world. It is often hard to believe that this is the writing of a 14 year old girl. Thousands of books are available that view World War II through the eyes of an adult. Yet this book is one of the few that gives us a view of a Jewish child in Europe during World War II.
"The Diary of Anne Frank" is written largely as a series of letters to an imaginary friend named Kitty. All of Anne's frustrations, fears, and musings are confessed in her diary. She is an adolescent female undergoing the same feelings of most adolescent females in unusual circumstances. Not only is Anne worried about Hitler and the Jewish concentration camps, but she is trying to break from her parents at a time when leaving her home is a risk to her life. Co-habiting with another family, she also has the privilage of finding love as a teenager. This creates some peculiar scenarios for Anne.
The great misfortune of this book is that the book ends when it seems Anne is on the verge of a major epiphany. She seems to be on the cusp of making a major self discovery, only to be hauled away from her family to her death. This is only one of the reasons that this book is so heartbreaking. Yet this is one of the elements that makes it one of the most important books written in the 20th Century.
