Book Reviews of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

Book Review: delicacy, calm candor and beauty
Summary: 5 Stars

Anne Frank's diary has moved millions around the world, past and present, with it's honesty, depth, and poignancy. (Personally, it was Anne's diary that motivated me to write my own journal as a young girl and I continue to write faithfully, ever since. It is one of the few books that I've read which has had the greatest influence on my life.) Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl living in Amsterdam, along with her family, went into hiding along with her family during WWII, when Holland was annexed by the Nazis Regime. During the long years of secret captivity in the building's attic, Anne captured her hopes, loves, fears and thoughts on life in her diary, where she affectionately addressed her entries to an imaginary friend she named "Kitty".

Despite the horrible reality of war just outside her window, Anne was a person who could see beyond man's inhumanity to man, and perceive true beauty and the gift of life. Tragically, nearing the war's conclusion, the family's hiding place is mercilessly betrayed to the Nazis...which ultimately culminates in the final chapter of this lovely young girl's life, just prior to liberation. This is a true story...a diary of a young girl....and her voice from the past. It's a memoir of a brilliant and deep being who wasn't afraid to hope for something better, beyond the misery surrounding her. In my opinion, it is a book that every person should read.

It was an overcast day on Saturday, March 9, 2002. I stood just outside of Anne Frank's final dwelling place, the "Secret Annex," at Prinsengracht 263, Amsterdam. I was overcome with great sadness as I gazed up at the small attic window where she must have looked out...a tree-lined canal just across the way. Perhaps she watched the ducks in the water, swallows overhead, the steady sloping of the rain, or the cloud formations....day in and day out. I imagined what it would be like to be a young girl in confinement, yearning to enjoy life amidst the free, only to be shut up, and kept quiet for fear that an audible breath would betray my family's whereabouts and terminate our lives. I wept at the great waste of life, the cruelty, the plundering of innocent lives, and how this amazing young woman maintained the inner strength to endure those years...and had the courage to capture it all with such delicacy, calm candor and beauty.

Book Review: Anne Frank Diary Of A Young Girl Reiew by Lexi Henry Pd. 3
Summary: 5 Stars

Have you ever read the Diary of Anne Frank. I have and it is the best book I have ever read. It is about a thirteen year old jewish girl and her family that had to go into hiding during the Holocaust. Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt,Germany on June 12,1929. Anne writes in her diary that she recieved on her thirteenth birthday in 1942.

In July 1942 she and her family along with four other people were forced to take refuge in an office apartment in Amsterdam. Anne wrote in this diary with intamancy, humor, and her thoughts. This book is the best seller in almost every known language and was sold in almost ever known country in the world. It truly represents the true horror and tragedy of the Nazi occupation.

This book is so moving along with the movie which also blew my mind completely. Anne's thoughts about the changes that were brought upon eight people hiding from the
Nazis for two years during the occupation of Holland, living in constant fear and isolation, imprisioned npt only by the sad circumstances of war but by themselves made me shocked and aware of what they were going through.

Despite the horror and humiliation of thir lives, they never gave up. Anne herself, most odf all this is her picture which comes out so greatly and appealingly from this book. She mature so fast,in these two years, the crucial years from from thirteen to fifteen in which change is so swift and so hard for every young girl. Anne wrote most of the time about things that you could only write without a death threat from your parents which I thought was very brave of her.

These are the thoughts and expressions of a young girl living under extrordinary conditions, and for this reason her diary tells us much about ourselves and other children like us. Her diary is an apropirate monument to her spirit and to the spirit of those who have worked for peace and still are working for peace. "I hope I shall be able to confide in you completely ,as I have never been able to do in anyone else before, and I hope that you will be a great support and comfort to me" a qoute from Anne's diary written on th 12th of June 1942. This is a quote that we should all live by confiding in eachother not fighting with eachother.

The Diary of Anne Frank written by Anne Frank
NonFiction
review by Cappinator

"Work love, courage and hope make me good and help me cope." Anne Frank is only 13 years old when she is plucked from reality and placed on the upstairs floor of "Glies and Co.," the company where her father used to work. Without many outfits, or much food, the Franks, along with the Van Daans (a family that joined them later at Glies and Co.,), and an old dentist must learn to get along, and trying to froogle the money the best they can. But when prices go up, and Anne can't seem to find a moment in the day when she isn't caught in a squabble, she is forced to lean on Peter, the old and only Van Daan child. But when Peter and her seem to be getting a little too close, how will her father react? And with all the sudden attacks (including bombings and shotting), how is Anne supposed to fall into her dreams at night? It seems the only way is to cry herself to sleep. And to top it all off, Anne still has to go to "school" with lessons every day- and a tun of homework! Read as Anne goes through both good and bad times for almost 2 years in a little building she calls home. While the family is in poverse, can Anne keep the family together while trying not to make a lot of noise?

I enjoyed reading this book because it gives a person a real first person look at the war, and how poorly the Jews where being treated, and how Anne Frank has to learn to cope in such a situation. Anne goes into some deeper subjects (such as sex, and private parts), and if that stuff bothers you, just skip that entry because this book is a definite must-read for young women and men. Anne Frank has a very powerful style of writing, and I almost think she was like a 30 year old woman stuck inside a 14 year-old's body. I really got sucked into what she was saying! Although little sections in this book may seem a little dull- don't be discouraged! Keep reading- the book ending is very unexpected! Be sure to read the AFTERWORD for much more information on how Anne did after her last entry! (it isn't exactly HAPPY news)

Book Review: Anne Frank Revisited...
Summary: 5 Stars

As just about every other student, I read The Diary of Anne Frank in middle school, probably during the 6th or 7th grade. I had a distant memory of it, but not much. Well, recently I watched Schindler's List and this got me re-interested in WWII, and especially the Holocaust. I read Night by Eli Wiesel (highly recommended) and decided to move on to The Diary of Anne Frank. Let me start by reviewing the book:

The Diary of Anne Frank is a diary of a young, Jewish girl (as the title obviously states, haha) whom is forced to go into hiding with her family during the Nazi occupation of Holland in the early 1940's. During this period, Jews were being segregated and even sent off to concentration camps by the Germans on a daily basis. When Anne's sister's name was next on the list, their father decided to take the family into hiding.

Aided by some of Otto's (Anne's father) former employees, the Franks seclude themselves in a small Annex of a business in Amsterdam. There, they are joined by the Van Daan family and later by an older gentleman, Mr. Dussel. Anne's diary chronicles their plight for the following two years, until they are discovered by the German secret police and ultimately sent to their death in Jewish concentration camps.

Anne addresses various topics, from their daily activities, to her interest in the son of the Van Daan's, Peter, to some of her inner most thoughts, fears, and aspirations. I have to share with you that I was EXTREMELY impressed with Anne's intelligence. I couldn't help but compare her to myself when I was only 15 years old and I am amazed not only at her intelligence but her strength to persevere during such horrible times. This young girl manages to keep faith in God and struggles with maintaining her morality, even as all around her she is witnessing a warped world full of sin, hatred and evil. I cannot say that in her shoes I would've reacted the same.

I encourage any reader to read and/or re-read The Diary of Anne Frank. You will be completely enveloped by her wit and warmth and are surely to fall in love with her.

Book Review: Remarkably intimate and beautifully written classic
Summary: 5 Stars

Anne Frank went into hiding , in 1942, with her parents and sister and four other people , in the sealed off back rooms of an Amsterdam office buliding , when the Nazi invaders of the Netherlands , intensified their persecution of Jews.

They were all dicovered in 1944 , by the Nazis, and of the group , only Anne's father Otto Frank survived the war. Anne died in the hideous death camp at Belsen.

In this remarkably intimate and beautifully written classic , Anne documents the two years in hiding - how they survived , amusing observances about the different residents of the house , as well as her own remarkable development , such topics as her sexuality and the development of her relationship with Peter Van Daam , as well as her sparkling brilliant intellect.

She reveals the peculiarities and personalities of the people who live with her in the annexe , in a series of accounts and amusing anecdotes.

One could ask why the Nazis brought about the death of this good , intelligent and charming child. One should ask what moves man to commit such horrors. What moved the Nazis to kill over a million Jewish children. What moves people to justify the murder of Jewish children in Israel today by Arab terrorists , or to justify the monstrous tyrannies in North Korea, Red China, Zimbabwe or Iran?

The book can equip young people to answer the questions that will be thrown at them today: Why did the Nazis do what they did? Why did the people of Europe allow it to happen? Why do we need the State of Israel?

We are living in time when values are distorted , moral relativity and the inversion of the truth are the order of the day. Anti-semitism is on the march again , in the shape of genocidal hatred of Israel. It is today that it becomes so relevant , Anne Frank's word in her diary: " It's twice as hard for us young ones to hold our ground and maintain our opinions , at a time when all all ideals are being shattered and destoyed , when people are showing their worst side , and do not know whether to believe in truth and right and God'.
