Book Reviews of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young GirlBook Review: Wistful and witty Summary: 5 Stars
I just wish I had the insight and sensitivity Anne had at her mid-teens when I was the same age; but then, I didn't have to go through what she experienced at such an early age. Just to think that this clever, precocious girl had to suffer confinement and a terrible death simply because a bunch of kooks didn't like her kind makes me cringe. And still, Anne states: "In spite of everything, I still believe people are good at heart". I think it sums up the essence of the diary, naive and wise at the same time. She recounts her life before and after she and her family went into hiding to escape Nazi persecution, and the hardships they had to suffer, and not precisely because of Nazi harassment; the squabbles and pettiness of some of the annex dwellers could seem in some ways worse than the war going on in the outside world. Although the strained situation in the annex affected Anne very much, she does not despair; she spices her accounts with hilarious and often wicked comments on the people around her, mixed with the difficult, sad situations she had to endure. It isn't really much of an historical reading, it contains little about World War II itself, but it is more a story about coming of age in very unusual circumstances. What a shame Anne Frank had to die, had she survived she probably would have produced an even better work than this one.
Book Review: Give her a break! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is absolutely wonderful. I wasn't "forced" to read it as some readers here said. It's a timeless classic and I recommend it to everyone who wants to have a glimpse of the Holocaust.I read some negative reviews and for christ's sake, she was only 13! You can't expect her to be a Pulitzer-winner kind of writer. I think she was pretty smart for a girl in the 40s, in the dawn of her puberty and also during such a hard time as the Holocaust and WWII. You can't compare teenagers today with teenagers in the 40s, that's plain stupid. Try to put yourself on her shoes: imagine to be hiding from the Germans with the constant fear of being caught. She never left the Annex for 2 years, what do you expected her to do besides writing? I would probably do the same. She never thought her diary would become a book someday. Everything there is based on her thoughts and feelings. If you want something more serious, get some history textbook and read the boring and dull stuff you can read anywhere else. I'm 21 years-old now and I read this book when I was 14 and I understand her urge to write her feelings on a diary. Most girls need this kind of comfort and to let our feelings out on paper. During late childhood till I was 18 I wrote everything I felt on a diary. Most girls did it and it's easier for us to understand why Anne started a diary.
Book Review: Her Legacy Lives on in Her Diary! Summary: 5 Stars
Anne Frank was an aspiring writer, a young lady, and Jewish girl who was in hiding in the attic in Amsterdam, Netherlands during the horrors of World War II. Anne's personal diary resurrects the actual horrors of the war and the holocaust which claimed her life as well as her mother, sister, and other residents in the attic. Life was hard enough as a Jewish girl in Hitler's time, it was practically impossible to survive much less thrive. This diary explains how Anne coped with daily horrors and daily living situation being unable to speak above a whisper rather than not be heard. Her legacy is her diary and it humanizes the inhuman experiences that harmed so many innocent people regardless of religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Anne writes candidly about her struggles with a sense of optimism. We can only imagine how she survived and thrived in the attic despite her circumstances. You never get the sense that she blamed the world or others for her situation. She has this sense of optimism and hope all through out despite her fate as she died in Bergen-Belsen right before liberation. I wonder if she had lived that the world would never get to know this fascinating young girl as she transformed into a young lady of so much promise and hope. She gives us all hope that life is not always doomed but it's how you look at it.
Book Review: Always in My Heart Summary: 5 Stars
The book Anne Frank, " The Diary of a young Girl" to me was very outstanding! It had interested me a lot. I couldn't even imagine having to go through such a harsh life as Anne Frank. At such a young age, Anne had experienced being in a concentration camp where she was then treated very badly and kept hidden. She began writing in her diary about everything that happened to her and many other people. It was such a terrible life that it was like a real-live nightmare. Thousands had died through this cruel and ruthless treatment, just for being a Jew. Just to think that all this time Hitler had been behind all of this and nobody said anything, it's hard to believe that people where actually behind him with his decision. He was a very selfish person and he didn't care about anything but him self. Author B.M. Mooyaart; gave so much information about Anne's experiences. I have never read an Anne Frank book before, and as a first time reader I felt like I've known about an Anne Frank forever. I hope all will enjoy this version, just like I did. Everyone needs to learn there history, Jewish or not. The whole thing about the Nazi's and the Holocaust was an epidemic of hatred. Just by reading all of this made me fill up in tears. Anne Frank gave us all a message saying, livelong, if not in age but in people's heart. and she'll stay in mine.
Book Review: Anne's Diary is an invaluable document Summary: 5 Stars
Her diary was Anne Frank's most intimate friend: she called it Kitty, and there was nothing she did not dare to write into it. Anne wrote in a detailed, lively way. For Anne, writing this diary was more than just taking notes ,it helped her coping with the natural problems of a maturing girl: her own "split" personality, her relationship with her parents and other people, her sexuality. Above all, this diary helped her to survive during the two years of hiding. She expressed her fears, her depressions, her hopes, and by this, regained strength and optimism. Moreover, Anne's reports tells us what she and her family knew about the terrible fate of the Jewish people and about the political situation. It may be astonishing how well informed they were, even in their Secret Annexe! She also described the courage and devotion of the people who tried to save their lives. Therefore, Anne's diary reminds us of all the people who suffered under Nazi-Deutschland, and of all the encouraged people that dared to resist. It is an invaluable historic document, the story of the personal fate of a young girl and her family, which touches everyone who reads it. Therefore it helps to remember one of the darkest moments in human history, and it makes us aware of our responsibility to prevent such a terror happen again.
