Book Review: What a great idea; fun to read aloud too...
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a terrific children's book: instructive without sacrificing any entertainment. Large, double-page comic illustrations of familiar animals--donkey, sheep, hen, frog, elephant, dog, pig, etc. Text will say what the animal's sound is called in English, then in several other languages-- "the horse neighs: NEIGH" then several examples of what a horse says elsewhere, with flags of the country alongside: "in welsh i say NEI" "Portuguese YAHOU" "Danish VRINSK" and then the written Arabic letters...but you can't read Arabic (well perhaps you can, but there'll be some language; maybe Mokshan or Japanese or Farsi, or Nepali which you can't)...So you turn to the first or last endpapers where all of the languages are sounded-out, arranged as a sort of a visual index, and find that the arabic sound is "SAHEEL" -- As it turns out, the turning back and forth is kind of fun & offers an intro to flags of the world, as well as how to use an index--and is, to me, a plus rather than a negative...
Entertaining to read aloud, a terrific introduction to languages, onomatopoeia & onomatopoetic spelling, alphabets, and geography.
