Book Reviews of Anastasia (The Ringing Cedars, Book 1)Book Review: Russian answer to "Mister God this is Anna" Summary: 5 Stars
Going by the title of this book, it might appear that I am suggesting that "Anastasia" is modeled after the bestselling "Mister God..." series and not an original experience. This is not my intention at all. It is just that I find the similarities between the experiences mentioned in these books, quite intriguing. It seems that the same message comes out again and again, in a form best suited to the society it addresses.
In "Mister God, the author describes his interaction with a five year old girl called Anna, who had a strong and vital relation with the Creator. In "Anastasia", the author of "Mister God...", Fynn is replaced by Vladimir Megre, Anna, by Anastasia and the platonic relationship between Anna and Fynn, replaced by one that is more chastely sexual in its Nature. The difference between the two is that the relationship between Anna and Fynn played itself out over the timespan of a few years, while the relationship between Vladimir and Anastasia, plays out over a timespan of three days. Three days of tumultuous and intensive learning. Three days thaat changed the course of many lives, not just the author's and Anastasia's, but also countless others who read the book and felt inspired to express themselves in poetry and music, and change what they needed to change in order to give expression to their own spark of creativity. "Anastasia" has made a greater global impact than the "Mister God.." series, for it arrives at a time in human history, when the world is looking for real and convincing answers to its existential questions, as the walls of dogmatic and hierarchial systems of organization are being torn down to facilitate the rejuvenation of our collective consciousness. The Anna books were popular in the mid eighties, but they did not generate a movement, at least not to my knowledge.
To me, at least, it is not what people say that matters so much in a book. It is HOW they say it. The stamp of authenticity lies in the particular way, a truth is presented while describing a living person's beliefs and actions. In this work, Vladimir Megre does a marvelous job of depicting the essence of the person that is Anastasia and the wisdom that she exudes in her discourses with him. He shows clearly the kind of integrity Anastasia has achieved,as whatever she thinks come to fruition. He is, however, way too harsh on himself, exaggerating his materialistic, worldly mindset, perhaps, in order to higlight Anastasia's other worldly consciousness, as a contrast.
A good deal has been said about the book called "Anastasia" as the first book in the Ringing Cedars Series, so I will not lengthen this already long review, any more than I already have. Personally, however, reading this book gave me a sense of the dawning resurgence of Russian spirituality, arising from the ashes of the erstwhile socialist Soviet Union. Slowly, gradually, the Russian bear is emerging from hibernation, as people start working on their own dachas in order to grow their own food, and gather around the dolmens in order to pay homage to their ancestors at these sacred sites of which greater numbers are being rediscovered by the day.
Read this book if you can.It is fast paced and easily read, exuding hordes of "feel good" energy. You will not regret the time investment and will be a better person for having done so. This is a book to be shared with friends, the joy of reading it will be multiplied.
Warmly recommended.
Summary of Anastasia (The Ringing Cedars, Book 1)"Anastasia", the first book of the Ringing Cedars Series, tells the story of entrepreneur Vladimir Megre's trade trip to the Siberian taiga in 1995, where he witnessed incredible spiritual phenomena connected with sacred 'ringing cedar' trees. He spent three days with a woman named Anastasia who shared with him her unique outlook on subjects as diverse as gardening, child-rearing, healing, Nature, sexuality, religion and more. This wilderness experience transformed Vladimir so deeply that he abandoned his commercial plans and, penniless, went to Moscow to fulfil Anastasia's request and write a book about the spiritual insights she so generously shared with him. True to her promise this life-changing book, once written, has become an international best-seller and has touched hearts of millions of people world-wide.
