Book Review: Alton At His Best

I'm a huge Alton Brown fan. As with his show and his other book, he integrates science into his discussion of kitchen gadgets. He says which ones are good, and which ones aren't. It's probably not the book for the serious chef or cook, but it's great for a novice like me. There are lots of simple tips in here on buying and maintaining various kitchen items. It's a fairly easy read, but well worth it.Book Review: Informative Book

I am so glad Alton wrote this book. I'm upgrading all my kitchen stuff and was overwhelmed with all the products out there. Whether you agree with him or not, he gives an honest assessment of dozens of items. And typical of Alton he tells you "scientifically" why he chose the products he endorses. The book reads just like the Good Eats show, lots of information and quirky Alton sidebars.Book Review: Perfect Guide!

I am brand new to cooking and am living in my 1st apartment, so I was starting with nothing. Gear helped me figure out exactly what I needed and helped me every step of the way. I would bring the book in with me to BB&B and Costco and refer to it while I was browsing. Couldn't have asked for a better kitchen gear guide!! Alton is the man! This book begins by giving sound advice. If you don't use it at least once every six months it has no place in your kitchen. It outlines a solid program for clearing out the kitchen and replacing unused items wisely. Value is the key.
A good read but I am finding it hard to put into practice. But then again I find it hard to diet and exercise.

Anyone who is a fan of Alton Brown's will know that this is a great book even before they read it. Our family loves watching his informative show on the Food Network and my husband who refuses and hates to read just LOVES this book. It is witty and informative. A must have for any Alton fan or cook who is looking for good info!
