Book Reviews of the Alton Brown's Gear for Your KitchenCustomer Review: Invaluable resource for the budding Home Chef Summary: 5 Stars
Alton brown is pretty much the only reason I watch the Food Network anymore. He's got a great attitude toward cooking and it certainly comes through in this book. Much like an episode of Good Eats, after finishing this book I actually feel like I learned something about the art and science of cooking, and the tools to do it, not just the list of ingredients in a recipe. The previous reviewers who complained about expensive recommendations, like the F. dick Multicut steel are missing the point. Alton didn't set out to make a book on outfitting your kitchen as cheap as possible. His recurring theme is spend wisely on core equipment where quality matters (Chefs knife, Heavy bottom Saute pan, etc), avoid expensive uni-taskers, and use cheaper alternatives where you can ($4 putty knife in place of a $30 gourmet "Board Scraper") I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to clean out the kitchen cabinets and get properly outfitted for some serious cooking.
