Book Reviews of Almost Home: My Life Story Vol 1

Book Review: Touching and in-depth story
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're like me, you have to push through to get past the spelling, grammar and usage errors. Quite frankly, I'm not sure whether the manuscript wasn't properly proofread or if they just felt that it would be better left untouched. However, that is the only problem I had with this book (and that's pretty minor). I wonder if Damian knows what a good writer he is. His ability to pull you in very early on is amazing--and I'm the type to lose interest in a book very easily. You can really visualize the situations he explains and you feel involved. It answered a lot of questions for me and I feel that I understand him better. I bought this book because I was curious, and because I wanted to help support the WM3. But I now recommend it to friends because it's a great book. I applaud this man's strength. Great job, Damian!

Book Review: A good look in
Summary: 5 Stars

This was written from death row...and it allows you to come on in and meet Damien personally. We know where he is and with this you can find out from where he comes.
I've been following this story from the start..my kids were small in fact. I had family members that couldn't believe my stance on this.
These three are innocent of the crime they have been accused of..period. Since my stance has not changed and my children are now grown, my family thinks I may have a point.
I'm an 80's child and we all wore hideous clothes back then and it scares me to think just what can happen to someone based on appearance and lack of monetary funds to fight with.
The state of Arkansas and the powers that be need to retrial. It's ok to make a mistake..but for God's sake correct it! Good read! Get it.

Book Review: I am pleased...
Summary: 5 Stars

After years of knowledge and following this case, I was ready for what Damien had to say. He wrote about his life proir to the arrest; he wrote about his life since the arrest. I went through a range of emotions while reading this book. He made me laugh, feel nostalgic, and even want to cry. It was an easy read that flowed right along..I managed to read it in 2 sittings. I thought it was that good.

It is a book from HIS view and how dare anyone judge and say that it's WRONG?? Where you THERE?? What's wrong with you?? It's an autobiography!

Damien is a very talented writer and I am definitely looking forward to more of his releases. You people spread the word about this book and educate people about this case. Help this guy have a living when he gets out. That's the least we can do...

Book Review: S E Smith, England
Summary: 5 Stars

Well worth reading. Anyone who know about the WM3 might expect that this would be an angry and joyless book, but it isn't. Damien Echols writes with a lot of humour and honesty, he doesn't pull any punches in his descriptions of others or himself. The book covers his whole life thus far - not just his arrest, trial and subsequent imprisonment - detailed in occasionally heartbreaking clarity. It never quite slips into self-pity and nor do you get the impression that this was written as self-defence or to make money.

Because of the nature of Echols life, it is a sad tale but not hopelessly so. For someone who's been demonised and martyred in a way, at the end of the book you just realise that there is an intelligent and talented person underneath it all who really shouldn't be in prison.

Book Review: Great narrative
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been following the West Memphis Three case for some time now and this book is a great addition to the information that has been presented. We have the chance to hear things in an honest, heartfelt manner from Damien Echols himself. He tells his life story from his painful childhood, the conviction and his life in prison now. Damien is an excellent writer with a great sense of humour. I laughed out loud many times while reading this book. You will feel the full range of emotions from heartache and longing while Damien speaks of his childhood and his conviction to love and hope when speaking about his wife, Lorri, and the split second he sees Jason Baldwin for the first time in over a decade. Anyone who is greatly involved in the support of the West Memphis Three should read this book.
