He got to start reading it before I did. Cold, winter night. My husband and I tucked in bed to stay warm. I don't remember what book I had, but he was reading "Afternoon Delight", edited by Alison Tyler. It had just come a couple of days before. After a few stories, he closed the book and snuggled up to me. Guess he liked what he read.
The intro starts "Imagine twenty-four hours of sex" and if you have good self-control I imagine you could read one story (just one now) each hour of a day. But I bet you can't. Though I do admit it is not easy to read more than a few at a time. Because, well, because. One does need to rest.
If you're the sort of couple that reads to each other (we're not), this volume of "erotica for couples" would make some great bedtime reading material. The stories in this volume vary in length, so you can slip in a quickie read while your bedmate brushes their teeth or get involved with a longer story that may be difficult to finish, especially if someone is trying to distract you. This happened to me while reading "On Island Time" by Kristina Wright. I did finish it, but he made it quite hard to concentrate on those last few paragraphs.
Most are very evocative. Here's a brief sample.
"After Midnight" by Nikki Magennis, whose last line reminded me of moon-washed nights I've known - "it's enough to make the moon blush."
"Square Loophole" by Craig J. Sorensen lets the first rays of sun illuminate modesty - "There is always time for touch later."
"Early Birds" by Rachel Kramer Bussel compensates us for the rude awakening by construction workers.
"Another Hole Week" by Jeremy Edwards made me smile remembering how attracted I am to the holes in my husband's ratty work clothes. Hehehe.
"Knit One, Purl Two" by Jacqueline Applebee - which I read while sitting in my rocker - made me want to pick up my knitting needles again.
And in "Morning, Noon, And Night" Alison Tyler delights us with a lovely twist.
All the stories are great - no duds. And I'd love to tell you what I liked about each single one, but neither of us has time for that. So grab your headphones, a ripe, organic apple, a disco ball, some knitting needles and head for the picture window. You'll want to stay up all night.
