Book Reviews of Actual AirBook Review: Very cool. Summary: 5 Stars
I like poetry, but I don't really know where to look for the kind of poetry I like. So when a friend recommended this book, I picked it up. Really cool poems. Simple, insightful, sometimes funny, sometimes moving. A few of the poems floated into the clouds a bit for me, but most were totally cool.
Book Review: Berman is amazing Summary: 5 Stars
I found Berman through the now-disbanded Silver Jews, sucked in by his lyrics, and his poetry is equally moving.
Buy this book. Either he's playing with the language in fascinating ways or he's telling of things in ways you've never dreamed of. He's rarely off.
Book Review: the Botany 500 of Charlottesville-inspired whimsy-rock Summary: 5 Stars
There remains some question regarding my thorough completion of the tome, but none about the clarity of Mr. DC Berman's mystical vision, to wit: give a man a suit, he'll dress for a day, but give him a Botany 500 and he'll found Microsoft. Or something.
Book Review: As lyrical as the Silver Jews Summary: 5 Stars
Berman's lyrics are some of the greatest aspects of his music with the Silver Jews...it's great to see his prose stand alone, and stand so tall. I had lost hope for contemporary American poetry, but now I know that I was terribly, terribly wrong.
Book Review: featuring the best 20th century description of rain Summary: 5 Stars
Witty, wonderful stuff. Fans of Richard Brautigan should take note. Also take note: fans of waking up by accident. See 'The Night Nurse Essays' for pitch perfect description of rain and drowning in the 20th century. Late American 20th century.
