Book Reviews of Actual Air

Book Review: Enjoy
Summary: 5 Stars

I've ordered Actual Air a couple times from amazon, and both orders were cancelled due to the book being unavailable. Luckily I found it at Drag City's website, which is the record label that the Silver Jews are on. The available edition is hardcover, limited, and more expensive but well worth it b/c it's a gorgeous cloth binding w/ Berman's facsimile autograph etched into the back board. His poetry is fun, and the images can be so simple & fine that I see why some "poets" have a problem w/ someone who makes it look so easy.

Book Review: chips ahoy! this is one exciting book of poetry
Summary: 5 Stars

david berman's interrogation of the nostalgic is well - it's great because it makes me think of the old arrested frontier - i'm a cowboy. youre a cowboy. this is actual, not virtual.

this has to do with his capacity to hypostatize the corporeal in a reluctance to get hung up over cookie factories or sliding scale payment plans. the result? it makes you believe in me and me in you. that intersubjectivity that lies at the base of every american community is HERE, actual air - i salute people constantly.

Book Review: The title of my review is: This book is good
Summary: 5 Stars

My review is that this is a good book. David Berman writes well and he seems really intelligent and insightful. I plan to re-read this book soon. David Berman is also a good singer and musician. Have you heard his band, "The Silver Jews"? I think that they are a great band.

In conclusion, speaking of stars, and borrowing from the Silver Jews: "The stars don't don't shine upon us. We're in the way of their light".

Thanks for reading my review.

Book Review: why not?
Summary: 5 Stars

either you will like this book or you won't. you will buy this book or you will buy the new dean koontz novel. if there is one. there is a good chance you will enjoy mr. berman's observations and insights, but i suppose there are people that won't. but that's ok. it's just allright. it's the finest collection of essays and poetry i've ever read, but i could be wrong, and you could do a lot worse. take a gamble, mr. disposable-income-face! i dare you.

Book Review: Words thin, yet runny, causing my shoes to go "squish"
Summary: 5 Stars

Pretend that Charles Simic and Russell Edson had a love child who was then brought up listening on headphones to scratchy recordings of very old Talking Heads songs in the left chanel, and very old Bob Dylan in the right chanel. Then get this child drunk and strip him naked and let him run around in the woods during a full moon in late August. Listen to his stories. They will sound like Berman's. I promise.
