Book Review: This Author was my Daughter's First Grade Teacher!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a must. The assignment is an absolutely genuine one. My daughter was in Bonnie's first grade class and participated in this assignment; the photographed children were about two years later. We still quote Bonnie in our household--and my daughter is 20 and a college junior! That is the power of an outstanding teacher. I have seldom seen anyone attempt as much work as Bonnie did, undertake such demanding activities and achieve such results!
For instance, she had each child undertake book writing (before they could write) and celebrated each publication with an publication party. At the end of the year, she had all 18 pipsqueaks produce an elaborate dinner for the class, the parents and siblings.
If you can't have Bonnie as your child's teacher, next best is having this book.

A fresh, funny, unique book about feelings; a guessing-game alphabet with descriptive clues; and exuberant photographs of children and other cool stuffThis gorgeous photo-picture book, developed from a real first-grade class project, asks young readers to guess how a child is feeling based on a photograph and a descriptive clue, and offers plenty of perusing pleasure with borders full of neat, alphabet-related objects. In the photos, a child or a group of children act out emotions--showing that they feel angry, brave, confused, delighted, and so on. The accompanying text gives a clue to the feelings based on a child's own experience.
I love my pet chameleon. His name is Dude. I feed him and clean his tank and have so much fun with him. If you want to hold him, you have to promise to be gentle and k______.
Everything rolls along in alphabetical order, and the "answers" can be found in the lush, colorful borders filled with other feeling-words and objects, all beginning with the same letter. The children in the photos are not models, but real first-graders. The clues, in effect offering twenty-six mini-stories, are drawn from everyday events and situations that kids will recognize from their own lives. Back matter includes more of the children's thoughts about the twenty-six feelings, as well as lists of what's in the borders.
A wonderful book for discussion about emotion, self-awareness, communication --with the added fun of identifying nifty objects and the letters they start with.
