Book Reviews of A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quintet)Book Review: fiction with a brain Summary: 5 Stars
"A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle is one heck of a book. It is so engrossing in fact, that I read this book in one day. I highly recommend it."A Wrinkle in Time" is fiction with a brain. It tells the story of how the Murry family (from the perspective of Meg) attempts to rescue their father from a place consumed by darkness. A lot of thought has obviously gone into creating the wonderful (and horrible) worlds in the story. The Murry's are a family of scientists. Both of Meg's parents are in fact world renowned scientists. Yet Meg seems to be the black sheep. Outside of math, she can do little but be awkward. "A Wrinkle in Time" is a story about how one's faults can become strengths. I like that. Another thing I like about "A Wrinkle in Time" is its focus on reality versus perception. The characters of the story learn in multitudes of ways that the unseen is often the most real...while the visible are often just shadows. The whole book sings with an inner strength about things we all must face in our everyday lives. While the situations are ones I doubt any of us may ever encounter, L'Engle's solutions are profoundly earthy and true. In this life where Angels so often look like witches or demons, (and vice versa) where our vision is clouded by the present darkness our fallen humanity..."A Wrinkle in Time" reminds us that the light is always there to shatter the darkness; and it is never beyond our reach. I recommend this book wholeheartedly to everyone.
Book Review: Wonderful Wonderings Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I was read this book, I was seven years old. I loved the basic plot line, though I didn't understand the intrincities of the story. As a teenager I was reintroduced to Ms. L'Engle through "A Ring of Endless Light." I identified strongly with the main character, Vicky, and went back to my library to find any other L'Engle books I could get my hands on.
"Wrinkle" is by far one of L'Engle's best works. It can be read to a child and it can be read as an adult. Christianity, or more specifically, a loving God is an interical part of this book. L'Engle does not come off as preachy, in fact you barely notice her narrative presence unless you search for it.
Instead, she introduces us to a host of amazing characters, including the wonderful Mrs. W's. The characters are all recognizable humans with flaws, even gifted Charles Wallace. A section at the end drags a little, but this book can afford a tiny weak sections. The amazing analogys of the book, as well as it's basic message should be taught to all humans on this Earth (and perhaps the other existences out of this galaxy??).
This book is wonderful to read over and over, and each time it will provide you with thoughtful wonderings and a wonderful story.
Book Review: A Wrinkle in Time's Shining Review Summary: 5 Stars
Book by Madeleine L'Engle
This is a very good book that will keep you reading, I think everyone should read a book by Madeleine L'Engle. This is a book about Meg Murry a girl who goes on an adventure with her brother and her neighbor. On their adventure they encounter some fascinating, weird, and awful things. Meg then loses her brother to an evil force in a search to find their dad.
This is a very interesting book that has some twists. I liked how Ms. L'Engle took me into the character's life, and it is like I was with the characters. There is one thing I disliked: every loved one in the book got taken away from Meg.
The message in this book is to tell the truth because Meg lies a lot and lying is wrong, plus it got her into trouble. I also found another message; if you want to do something, do it. When Meg says she'll do something, she becomes confident enough to do it. An example is when Meg said "I'm going to save my brother and father," and she did.
This is a well written book; I recommend it to anyone whose parents are split up, feels lonely, or anyone who just wants to read it.
Book Review: READ THIS BOOK Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book when I was 8 and it started to give me strange thoughts, I always find myself relating to the characters in a book, but I felt a strange connection with Meg. Two years later I read it again. Being 10 then I understood why all my friends and I felt the way each of us did. Even if you are the most popular kid in school there is a character in this book that tells you, "I am like this person, and I can be like them". I got this thought from Meg. I have trouble with school because I can't concentrate on one thing when something more interesting is going on, or even if not. After reading this book, I was able to look at my difference in a new way. I knew and my teachers said they knew that I was gifted yet I have obstacles in my way. Like Meg, I found ways to "tesser" over homework and learning while still understanding it all. I went for years of being in advance math groups without knowing long division. Finally when I got to 6th grade, I discovered that I knew how and "taught" my self. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ! ALSO READ THE SEQUILS! p.s i can't spell either!
Book Review: Probably closer to four and 1/2 Summary: 5 Stars
This was a great book. It mixed religion, romance, sci-fi, adventure, and good old fantasy into one novel without overwhelming the reader. Many of the books concepts arent childish, making it a great read for adults as well. The one problem: One expects an epic battle between the Brain, the mind-controlled Charles, and Meg. All the reader's get is about two pages. I closed the book feeling something was missing, almost as if this book was lacking around 100 pages. It is almost as if Mrs. L'Engle finished this book just for the sake of finishing it, like one does with say a school assignment that one is tired of. She seemed to have wanted to say more but was just getting sick of writing. This would completely destroy a lesser book, but the rest of this one almost makes up for what its ending lacks. I havent read the other books, but have read some of the synopsis', and it seems as if there is never closure brought to the matter of the shadow. Is IT ever finally dealt with?
