Book Reviews of A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham ClintonBook Review: Lack of Access to Hillary Clinton Need Not Have been A Problem Summary: 4 StarsCarl Bernstein is a fine journalist and has persued a worthy project -- It is crucial that We The People are able to view Hillary up close and personal as the democrat primaries approach. Until now e have been barraged by plastic images and ridicule by a Republicam media --why are they so afraid of her... the republican fear of Hillary is getting to be an endorsement.
Carl Bernstein did not get the personal interviews with Hillary that he hoped for... and it shows. We do not get the close up biography and profiling of Hillary that we are all lokking for.
I've wanted to know the psychological make up of Hillary Clinton for sometime.
Carl Bernstein has done something completely different. Instead of exploring the character of Hillary he has focussed on the events surrounding her, and a perceived reaction to those events.
Instead he might have used the oft repeated events merely as a backdrop to tell a riveting and very human story of one real woman's confrontation with herself, God, and human nature.
Another successful book has done just that... extrapolated from the portfolio of known facts by the technique of juxtaposition of hypothesized new events and new characters into the old story. In this way Dr. Thomas Moore has acheived the first glimpse of the life inside Hillary Clinton in his new book titled HILLARY. The book develops the full complexity and subtlety of conflicted and corageous human nature within.
I haven't read a more literary creation in quite some time.
Try Upland Road, GODLESS and Wanderlost, The Progress Of Man for further reading.
Book Review: Hillarity Summary: 5 StarsBernstein nails Hillary here. He gets us past all the ugly innuendo about her alleged sapphic affair with her gorgeous assistant and gets into the heart of what makes this integrity-filled woman tick.
But I can't help wondering more about the affair. I really wouldn't blame Hillary as her assistant is quite striking. I just wish Bernstein would have had the guts to plunge deeper and deeper into the 800-lb elephant in the room.
Anyway, she's a longtime New York Yankees fan so she's got my vote. I just hope she doesn't have to move to DC permanently because then she'll become a Nationals fan ... and no one wants that. Great read.
Book Review: i was..... Summary: 5 Starsi was going to vote for hillary until i read this book. read it and decide for yourself. Bernstein is known for his objectivity and credibility and that is the reason my vote changed after reading his latest work.
Book Review: Shameless pushing Summary: 1 StarsI have been trying to listen to an opinion from Mr Bernstein pushing his book on radio today. I was shocked at his shameless selling and plugging both his book and his son's rock band. He clearly was not there to discuss any relevant content of his book. I thought he was a respected journalist, no more. He has lost all credibility in my eyes.
Book Review: As insightful as his subject Summary: 4 StarsWhile the book was compelling in it's detail I kept waiting for that "aha!" moment when I would truely understand Hilary. Perhaps Hilary's need to protect her privacy, while understandable, will never alow us to really know who she is. Clearly this book, creates a picture of a woman who has been through a great deal of pain, much of it is of her own choosing. It begs the question--has she learned anything form these experiences, other than to hide who she is? Her goals have been high minded and her methods have been high handed. It appears that, in the senate, where she was not "in charge" she has done good work. If she becomes president she will certainly know the teritory. However, my question is whether she will be expansive and creative enough in her thinking to adapt to new situations as they arise. One small note is that the school (Maine South) and the neighborhood was hardly as diverse as the author described. As a graduate of Maine East, a few years behind her I can tell you that Maine South from which she graduated was clearly seen as the" Wasp/Rich Kid's " school. Having said all that it was still an enjoyable read.
