Book Review: If you are serious about being a Witch, then this is the book you want

"A Witches' Bible: The Complete Witches' Handbook" by Janet and Stewart Farrar is intended only for those who are seriously considering becoming a Witch. The information in this book is not sugar-coated, it is not dumbed down for the masses and it shows the experience and dedication that this husband and wife have given to the Craft over the years. This book throws open the Book of Shadows on just one of the many Traditions of Witchcraft in the world.
The book is divided into two sections which are essentially two earlier texts by the Farrars, "Eight Sabbats for Witches" and "The Witches' Way". Both of these books were required reading for me when I was a Dedicant in the Craft and were considered a place to start. Certainly this book is not meant to be the only text that is read by those who are interested in the Craft. The Farrars understand intimately that beyond Witchcraft being a spiritual Path, it needs to be integrated into one's life. Living the Wheel of the Year and being conscious of the fundamental beliefs of Witches, of what it is to live a magickal life, to exist Between the Worlds, is something that not everyone is suited for. Not everyone is cut out to be a successful Witch. Not everyone is cut out to practice magick. Acknowledging this fact is no different than acknowledging the fact that not everyone has musical or artistic talent. The Farrars understand these things and have put together a great deal of information that in places may seem a little dry, but are things that are fairly important to consider if you want to be a Witch. It takes hard work and discipline to undertake this way of life. No book, no magickal tool, no teacher or Coven leader is ever going to replace the necessary dedicatin that is required.
If you are looking something that is simple and easy and does not require you to do much in the way of getting up and doing the Rites, this book is not for you. The Craft is not all white light and wondrousness. There are some darker aspects to the Craft as well, and the Farrars, I believe present the information in a way that gives the reader or seeker the information necessary to find out if this way is right for them. I would definitely recommend it only to those who understand that being a Witch is not something you play at. It is a way of life, and it takes dedication in order to make a succeess of it. I have gone through several copies of this book - either having had them being "borrowed" or given them to students.
