Book Reviews of A Story Like the WindBook Review: A Story Like the Wind Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite novels of all-time, together with its sequel A Far-Off Place. It's a moving story, beautifully written, and full of the wisdom that I do not myself possess -- but wish I did. I loved it when I first read it in my youth, and I love it still as my years advance. It's a great book.
Book Review: Truly Evocative of a Lost Africa Summary: 5 Stars
The desription and plot in this book are unparalleled in their ability to create a gripping, yet beautiful story. Van Der Post has written a book that brings a long vanished Africa to life again. Anyone who has ever had any interest in Africa, must read this book, and the amazing sequel.
Book Review: A reader from Columbia, SC Summary: 5 Stars
This is a beautifully crafted story about the coming of age of a young boy in Africa. There are wonderful contrasts between events of great violence and relationships of intense tenderness. The language is beautiful and the descriptive passages never lag. A joy to read!
Book Review: One of the best books I've ever read. Summary: 5 Stars
This book and its sequel, A Far-Off Place, have it all. It's an adventure story. It's a spiritual quest. It's a coming-of-age story. It's about human relationships. It's about Africa, the land and its people. I've never read anything else like it.
Book Review: Informative and Highly Entertaining Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoyed this book a million times more than the more famous "A Far off Place". The book is simply fantastic. VanDerPost writes as one who truly knows his subject. Reading this book is like taking a course in Anthropology.
