This is one of my favorite novels of all-time, together with its sequel A Far-Off Place. It's a moving story, beautifully written, and full of the wisdom that I do not myself possess -- but wish I did. I loved it when I first read it in my youth, and I love it still as my years advance. I enjoyed this book a million times more than the more famous "A Far off Place". The book is simply fantastic. VanDerPost writes as one who truly knows his subject. Reading this book is like taking a course in Anthropology.
