This guy knows how to tell a story. Endearing and frightening at the same time. He will make you squirm uncomfortably. The mesmerizing high points are worth the effort. His female characters are believable even though they are not created with the passion or the compassion as the male. Overall, the character development was still outstanding. The story moves brilliantly. It cohesiveness and irony make a warm and fantastically ordinary story memorable. I loved his previous work (The Curious Incident...) and hope to read more from him soon.

Mark Haddon has done it again. For anyone who has read "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" and wondered how he could match it, be assured that he does.
This is not an easy read, but it's an amazing story that keeps the surprises coming. It will make quite the movie someday.
Love, sex, death, and mental illness all blend together in a familial storm that culminates in a crescendo that will have you laughing and wondering what could possibly go wrong next. You'll see.
Book Review: very moving

One of the best books I've ever read. It's an account of a dysfunctional family going through a number if stressful family situations. I found it very moving at points, sometimes funny, sometimes very sad but always believable. I really recommend it. I would not give 5 stars lightly, but this book really got to me. I do think that because of its content it may be something of a love it or hate it kind of book.Book Review: Stuck with me for a long time...

This book just had me. I have sooo much in common with the daughter. It's got a lot going on with the various family members but you become attached to each one of them and I always felt really concerned about how they were doing and where they were. Mark Haddon is a fabulous writer. I immediately gave it to my father when I was done with it and he loved it as well. I will be looking for more of his work.
