Book Reviews of A Short Guide to a Happy LifeBook Review: The title says it ALL! Summary: 5 Stars
What an absolute gem!If you're looking for the usual self-help, get in touch with your inner child, how-to, been there-know how you feel, flowery books leave this one on the shelf. If you're looking for a real down to earth person with a prescription for developing a no nonsense passion for living, Anna's your girl. Her book is written with style, humor, and grace. No doubt, this is the shortest book I have ever read but one that will certainly leave a lasting impact.
Book Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
A beautifully written essay (combined with exquisite black-and-white photos) about what's really important in life ("It's so much easier to write a resumé than to craft a spirit"). It's very short; it's the kind of book that can be read in one sitting. However, it's also the kind of book that SHOULD be read over and over again. Highly recommended for anyone who's grown tired of the urgency addition that pervades the normal American lifestyle.
Book Review: A GREAT graduation gift Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this book as a graduation gift, wedding gift, and as a gift to new mothers! I love it! Every now & then I get it off the shelf and read it ALOUD to myself...it is much more powerful when read aloud. Anna Qundlen's words of wisdom put everything in perspective and get me back on track to being the mother, wife, and friend I want to be, but often lose sight of in my hectic life. It is a quick read and very inspirational.
Book Review: REAL reading in a spiritual way Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent little spiritul guide. Reminding us that we need a purpose for being on this earth, a purpose other than just to make money and buy things. We need to have passion for family, and love, and just being who we are. To learn to truly enjoy our surroundings rather than try to change them, be comforable with ourselves, and make the most of our God-given talents. When we get to that point, little else can matter as much.
Book Review: A short guide indeed Summary: 5 Stars
This slim volume packs an enormous wallop. Anna Quindlen gives her advice to a happy life....Get a life. Fifty pages (half of it, photos)of no nonsense start living advice in her clear, no hidden meaning prose. I found this to be a delight, an all too brief delight. My only complaint was the book's brevity, but the message is to found there as well....don't spend all your time reading "how-to" guides...get out there!
