Book Reviews of A Night Without Armor : PoemsBook Review: Wonderfully unpolished, true and recognizable emotion Summary: 5 Stars
I can't believe the negative reception this book got. Jewel reveals herself through her poems as an extraordinaryly perceptive and sensitive person. Yes, the poetry is unrefined, unpolished, raw...it's completely real. Critics take this certain superiority standpoint, as though poetry has to be cryptic and carefully planned to be valid. Here, I recognize actual emotions, atmospheres, and circumstances in her beautiful, unbridled, uncensored writing. Jewel puts you in exotic places and while providing the picture of the situation, still adds the universal human feelings that not only let you picture the place she is at, but feel it as a part of your experience as well. I recommend it to anyone, women especially.
Book Review: "I am in love with a man who is gone now..." Summary: 5 Stars
A Night without Armor by Jewel is an excellent and under-rated book of poems. Ok so she's not Shakespeare but most writers aren't. These poems have been highly-criticized in the past, and it's a shame that Jewel was unfairly mocked by critics and so-called fans. I got this collection of poems the first week it was released and I fell in love with the book instantly, the poems are sensual, seductive, sensitive, and incredibly funny as well. Some of my favorites are: The Bony Ribs of Adam, Sara Said, The Strip Parts 1 and 2, New Moon, Someone To Know Me, Christmas in Hawaii, Red Roof Inn, Boston, and You Are Not. So with that being said, get this great collection of poems by Jewel today.
Book Review: A Breath of Fresh Air Summary: 5 Stars
This book is truly touching. I admire the fact that someone can make such personal thoughts and feelings so public. I am upset that some people can talk so badly of another's true expressions. Art is always going to be different and controversial. It is silly to say that any art is "bad". Who classifies "bad"? There will always be a different perspective. Jewel's words are wonderful and honest. They are color to this gray world. A breath of fresh air in a world that cherishes Walt Whitman. Jewel's writing is reminiscent of the writings of Octavio Paz, Charles Bukowski and Pablo Neruda. She is the perfect feminine counterpart to modern poetry.
Book Review: We Want More Poems! Summary: 5 Stars
I think Jewel is a sensitive artist and a conscious one. This book was promising, and was probably not taken seriously because of Jewel's rock star status. But Jewel is so much more than that; she is an extroidnary being who cares about people and the state of planet earth. I for one wish she would release another book of poems. She writes often from what I understand. And her words do have a certain flow and bounce. They also offer us a beautiful insight into the heart and soul of this most sincere of artists.
Jewel, just go girl!
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I believe that this was an excellent collection of poems. One of my former English teachers lent it to me to read after showing her some of my poems. I was touched by most of the poems. I found them easy to realate to, as I struggle through this game called life. This magnificent collection of writings from Jewel reassured me that i wasn't the only one with "these" feelings. After reading her poems, I have found a new respect for Jewel, and for myself.
