Book Reviews of A Night Without Armor : PoemsBook Review: critics are sad people Summary: 5 Stars
Who are you people? You are a bunch of pretentious, jealous, no-talent wastes of typing space. Who are any of you to define art? It can only be defined by the artist herself/himself. If you know so much about poetry, then why don't you get ballsy enough to put your own on display right here on this website, where people can criticize you as well! It seems to me that any time any one has a positive message to spread and they meet any level of success in doing so, someone wants to attack them. So what if her poetry does not follow a traditional form or structure. You know they told Einstein that his ideas were preposterous. And no one even remembers the names of any of those physicists. You people know damn well she is gifted and well capable of constructing a thought beyond anything average. And she is very fortunate that she had the opportunity to publish her poetry. But that doesn't mean no one else has a chance in the world. Maybe you asses just aren't profound enough to manipulate language in your own unique way. So don't bash someone who is unique and talented just because you're jealous. Jewel Rules!!
Book Review: jewel's thoughts against her silence... Summary: 5 Stars
jewel has creativity. though her music speaks volumes, these poems must have formed as mysteries in her mind long before she ever put pen to paper. this book for me shows tur poetic meaning, the type that comes from right inside of you, igniting your deeper fires, and bringing forward your source of words - your soul. though i understand people who cannot realte to this poetry, i must state that this poetry is not all for you to relate to. they are not your soul fires, they are jewel's. as paula coles, poet and musician, says, they are her "own creative interpretations". these poems are jewels thoughts against her silence, her mediations through her thoughts. the world has evolved more now that jewel's poetry has surfaced, and i pray that this "most honest and immediate art", this soul fire, has not yet burnt out. but there's not much chance of that from a poet who writes in the language of thought.
Book Review: a real poet Summary: 5 Stars
I was disheartened to see some people diss Jewel's poetry. When I went to buy the book, I too thought that it was only published because of her name and that it couldn't be that good, blah, blah, blah. But I was wrong! When I actually sat down and read the poems, it became clear to me very quickly that this is real poetry, not simple little rhymes that anyone can write, or abstract symbolism that no one can understand. Instead, this was intuitive, soulful, and meaningful poetry that spoke to me and impressed me with its colorful use of language, imagery, and metaphor. My favorite poem in this collection is "God Exists Quietly." Jewel's poetry is graceful, eloquent, insightful, confessional, spiritual, and above all, genuinely poetic.

Book Review: Glimpse of Simplicity Summary: 5 Stars
This book of poetry by Jewel was a very "mind altering" experience for me; how articulate and direct she can be, but in the same breath she isn't quite so... She has a great command over the English language; also she is very artistic in the way words are put together to "paint" a wonderful picture in your mind. After I read this book, I then began writing poetry much in the fashion she had chosen to express her thoughts. Jewel was able to put down in words what a camera does capture in a picture. When you are reading this book, it is possible to feel as though you are on the Alaska tundra, or wherever she may be, sitting right beside her as she composes her thoughts. I highly recommend reading this book, you won't be disappointed. I hope this is helpful- ENJOY
Book Review: A genious with the written word... Summary: 5 Stars
My favorite artist is Jewel. She has an amazing gift for putting together words. This gift is evident in her music and in her two books. This is an excellent book of poetry. I think her brashness and sense of wonder combined create the wonderful mood of this book. You'll find poems about love, humanity, fame, touring, and so much more. If you like Jewel- you'll like this. If you don't like Jewel... why not? If you're not sure about buying this book let me give a sample. The following is my favorite poem in the book and, yes, it is the entire poem. The title is "Shush":Can you imagine how quiet a plane crash would be if you were deaf? How unbearably loud a rape? Buy this book! Its well worth it. Get her book of memoirs as well. Its called "Chasing Down the Dawn".
