Customer Review: An excellent start of the new deWarenne generation

I've been waiting for this book for months and I was definitely not disappointed. The story is original and it suits Ariella's character very well (in A Lady At Last she is portrayed as this eccentric bookwormish child). The beginning was a bit bland and the constant use of the word 'gadjo' was a bit annoying, but once you're past page 50 you simply cannot put it down and you learn to just ignore the word.
I wished that she would've mentioned more of the de Warenne family and gave Amanda a stronger role, but I realize that she is putting emphasis on the younger generation now as the series continues.
I also noticed that Brenda's writing style improved a lot. The characters don't 'cry out' and 'hug' themselves anymore. Well, at least nearly not as often as in some of her previous books. Her stories are also getting more complex and the characters are very dimensional.
Overall, it is a highly enjoyable book that has a great story which will keep you up all night. As in most of her books, finishing it is bittersweet- you just want more. A must read for every deWarenne fan!
